Heavy armor is not good against bots
I'm too slow and find it hard to keep up with my teammates (I'm always late to engagement vs bots or destroying bases), so medium armor works better for me. I don't notice much difference in damage mitigation between medium and heavy, but heavy armor makes me feel as slow as a turtle and less effective. I also have more trouble disengaging and finding a safe spot because of the reduced speed. Heavy armor doesn't feel very protective, but it definitely slows me down significantly. It might only be useful for defense missions where mobility isn't necessary, but overall, heavy armor feels cumbersome with minimal benefits.

Works for me. Ballistic shield, heavy armour, SMG and AMR...I never arrive late, everyone else arrives early, but my orbitals arrive earliest. I tank a lot of damage (every 50 armour is 15% damage resistance, so at 200 with padded which is what I run I have 60% damage resistance) and combined with my shield I barely ever need to use stims, even though I FEEL like I'm taking damage, I'm really not. At first I found myself stimming at 80% HP because I felt like I should be near death, but I wasn't.

Short of getting swarmed by annoying Rocket Devastators or Berserkers, caught by a Scorcher Hulk or getting hit by a turret, nothing really hurts me. I can even step on landmines and not die (lose about 70% of my health though).

I won't make the statement that Medium or Light armour isn't good against bots though, because that's dumb. My friend rolls Light and uses a Counter Sniper + AMR combo and picks off all of the HVTs before they can cause problems, soloing bases and picking off patrols and he only gets killed when things get rough. That's his playstyle. Me? I walk into the thick of it and mow enemies down with my SMG. We have the same survival rate.

I want a big hammer or other melee weapon to wield alongside my shield, and then I know I'll have really made it. :stronk:

Speed is hardly an issue when you can just dive when in danger. There's something to be said about travelling around the map, absolutely, but that sucks no matter what armour type you wear honestly, especially without the practically mandatory stamina booster.

I'd personally make the case against Heavy armour being used when fighting Bugs, but you know what? I've seen some people using Medic Heavy armour with the +2 Stims and 180 seconds of regen health bonus just wading through entire swarms of bugs and coming out the other side...so yeah.

It just comes down to the individual and what they are comfortable with.

I recently made my first ever SC purchase. I paid 400 SC for the Heavy 200 rated armor.

I immediately went to trivial bot mission solo, and took the Shield Generator and the Vitality Enhance boost. I had my counter sniper rifle and the AMR.

I gotta say that I was able to just stand there for more than a few seconds and take hits with little or no damage from the trash mobs.

Devastators were still devastating ... albeit I did feel shielded more than usual. I think Heavy can work well if you're willing to play the distance sniper game.

Heavy armour can help if you are running autocannon

Isn't +50% explosion resist better? It probably pairs better with ballistic shield when crouching too because of +30% aim. I see most damage coming from rockets.

When you combine extra armor numbers, that +50 armor isn't a big deal. 150 vs 200 armor seems like a deal, but add helmet, cape, that's 350 armor (+30% crouch aim/+50% explosive resist) VS 400 armor.

Heavy armor is never the right choice due to how slow it makes you. Medium or light only.

might wanna try disengage earlier than others, or finish with what u have and ditch
that way u're always leading ahead, instead of following others, behind
u're in heavy, u will be slow and run less
it'd be easier for u to catcch up if u start running early
i do it all the time, or else i'lll be running while everyone's fighting
can't contribute with just running
heck i can't even run the furthest with heavy

heavy armor is bis for playing the ragdoll simulator minigame.

How about Medium armor that's slower than average medium, but more armored?
I tried finding, but failed any math here.
Does armors in "heavy" category have different percentage, or it's all in numbers we see on "speed/stamina regen"?

There's enforcer armor in medium category with extra armor for example, but it makes user slower. So if speed/stamina regen depenpends on only those 471/71 numbers, or also "heavy armor" category messes with speed and stamina too?

Fortified Commando (heavy + extra padding) is actually pretty tanky. On top of the high damage resistance you have innately, the bonus resistance to headshots scales to armor, so you don't even take much damage from some of the attacks that normally cause a lot of damage. It's very noticeable how much more punishment you can take.

Yeah i get thrown around as if i weigh nothing, try to stand up and get thrown around again....repeat...repeat...and i am dead...
Stagger and especially ragdolling has to be toned down significantly in the latter case. It doesn't make sense to be thrown around meters by machine gun projectiles.

Idk I see most dmg getting shredded by machine guns

i never see medium armor users complaining how they have been juggled for last 5 mins and still at 90% health :) (hevy armor +shield has been working out for me)

With ballistic shield you just ignore it.
