Bots vs bugs, advice welcome
I cannot stand bot missions. They're so much worse and more unfun than bug missions. I have tried a dozen different loadouts of weapons and stratagems and none of them seem viable on bot missions i get my face kicked in every single time. I play bugs up to helldive difficulty but i can barely take on a level 4 bot mission and its so frustrating to no end to not be able to enjoy half of the game i bought because bots are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ strong.
Solo, grouped up, shotguns, marksmen, eruptor + mg/laser cannon, rail gun, quasar, recoilless, shields, supplies, jetpack, obitals of all different kinds. none of it seems to make an ounce of difference for me and i want to enjoy it so badly.

tl;dr probably a skill issue, but bot missions are 100x harder than bug missions

Plasma punisher
Railgun
Supply pack
Orbital airburst strike
Cluster bombs

Stun grenades
Grenade pistol

Enjoy being able to kill anything bots throw at you and be safe while doing it =P.

What do you mean by getting face kicked in? Is it specific mission types or all? What armor are you wearing and what is your play style?

Without that info, I can try to take a stab. Try hit and run tactics. Bots will go to the source of an explosion if they don't hear anything else. So you can get them to group up from a distance and then air strike them or hit them with whatever you want. There are a lot of viable options. They just play differently than bugs.

I mostly run diligence CS or Sickle against bots. RR is my go to. I usually run stealth armor or the up armored medium gear. I really need that as I tend to die pretty quickly without it against bugs. I used to really like the light scout armor against bots. But, once they buffed them, the way I play wasn't conducive to survival wearing light armor.

Autocannon is also a solid choice as you can take out everything up to tanks with well placed shots. You have to hit tanks in the rear with the AC.

They just play different. They are an enemy that can shoot back and take a few hits. But, after a few ops, it will start to click. Some missions just really suck with bots (the 15 minute evacs suck against bots). 5 and 6 actually seem harder to me than 7+ due to the numbers of higher armored bots at those levels. Once you get to 7+ there are more tanks and they are much easier to deal with. You can run around them if they get the drop on you and their turret cant keep up. Then you can mock those clankers as you blast them!

it also depends on the type of planet these are my loadouts (not including eagles or orbitals or backpack stratagems)
if its a hot planet i run light armor and railgun for bots (senator pistol and impact grenades)
regular planet i use medium armor and scorcher for bots (senator and impact grenades) cluster rockets to kill fodder quickly
cold planet i use heavy armor thanks to stamina bonuses of cold planet and i use either sickle or smg. (senator and impact grenades) and laser cannon

for bugs
hot planets I use light armor incendiary shotgun (senator or grenade pistol and impact grenades) and flamethrower or quazar or cluster rockets
regular planets medium armor incendiary shotgun (senator or grenade pistol and impact grenades) cluster rockets or machine guns
cold planet heavy armor I use sickle (senator grenade pistol and impact grenades)
clusters or machine guns or something

also the drones are good if little annoying bugs are a big problem for you

I prefer bot missions. I solo them up to level 8 pretty regularly. The great thing about bots is that they can't smell you like bugs do, so when you break line of sight with bots they have a high chance of losing track of you.

My typical loadout is:
Stealth armor
Plasma Scorcher primary
Redeemer secondary
smoke or stun grenades

Auto-canon
Orbital laser
Eagle airstrike
Auto-canon turret

The key with bots is to keep them at a distance and disengage. It's easy to get sucked into prolonged skirmishes with them, which favors their ability to call in drop ships and bolster their own forces.

it's generally a good idea to throw a airstrike onto a bot fabricator then take off before it even lands. That will usually destroy the fabricator and cause a bot drop to reset their reinforcement timer. By the time their bots have dropped, you're already 100m meters away at whatever objective you're going for, hitting the bots from a distance, or lasing the whole area if it's a mess. Just clean up as quickly as possible and if you can't hack it before they reinforce, retreat and go for a different objective until that one has cooled down.

Also, bots become less accurate when they are taking fire. If you are pinned down, waiting for a sentry or other strategem, try to keep firing on them even as you retreat. Throw those auto-canon turrets far enough away that they don't get taken out immediately, but you can kite the hulks or other bots into their firing range at need.

Smoke grenades are great for breaking line of sight. Throw one in the direction you're running and disappear into it to lose most of your pursuers.

Stun grenades freeze hulks so you can hit their eye slits for the kill.

dont forget to always remember to take heavy busting stratagems with you on both bots and bugs the best one by far is probably orbital rail cannon. to kill devastators aim for the head or the crotch as thats where the armor is thinnest

The only thing bad about bots is the over the top ragdoll effects and lasers and missiles coming through and around walls/rocks lol...Bugs are not any easier either coz of the exaggerated poison/slow effect from hunters and the spewing daddy long legs and fat boiz...

Use cover a lot, 50% explosion damage reduction armor, don't mindlessly aggro everything by shooting everything you see, use stratagem first then go in and mop up.

accuracy matters.

bugs you can just lay down a field of fire and deal with most of them, with bots yes you can do that as well, but they have weakpoints that make a HUGE difference in how quickly they go down.

Devastators of any kind can be taken down with headshots of any weapon type quickly, also you can always resort to "shoot'em in the ♥♥♥♥" and take them down although it takes more ammo. Their arms/legs aren't armored like their torsos and you can shoot the rocket pods on the Rocket Devastators. This can "neuter" them all by blowing off the arm that has the gun, forcing them into their slow easily avoidable melee, and take out the "rocket spam".

It's still easier to just outright kill them with headshots but if they are turned in such a manner you can't take those, you can support teammates by taking out their weapons.

Hulks you need something with armor pen to take them out from the front, hitting the "face" , but from behind you can take them out with even Light Pen weapons (takes a bit of ammo but doable) think shooting a charger in the ass. Like Devastators albeit with the right support weapon you can blow off their arms stopping one of the attack types.

Tanks come in two varieties..one with cannon, one with a 4 barreled gun, the cannon type turns slowly enough that you can easily run around and take it out by blasting the vent with grenades (takes 2 impacts) or a weapon with Medium Pen. The "shredder" has a 4 barreled gun and turns much faster so you typically need some assistance to get behind them by baiting it to turn or having someone bait it for you.

The Scout Striders (crew I play with calls them Chicken Walkers) either dash behind them and shoot the bot riding it, blow them up with grenades, use a support weapon, and if you don't have the Armor Pen to blast them in the front plate, the legs and pelvis have lower armor and actually kills them faster.

Factory Striders, take out the chin guns quickly using a support weapon as they are really the biggest threat, the cannon on it's back turns slowly and you should be able to avoid it easy enough. use your stratagems, and blast the underbelly after the chin guns are gone and they go down fast.

This is of course not taking in stratagems into account, just weapons.

My tips would be wearing armor with fortified. Having the 50% explosion damage reduction makes surviving the likes of rockets and cannon shots much more viable. (Watch out for the Berserkers, as you being slower can put you in a pinch.) for my primary weapon, I use the SMG-37 Defender. With its low fire-rate, damage and good mag size makes it a great head-popper for Devastators of any kind, and can clean up smaller bots just fine. Use whatever secondary weapon and grenade(s) you want, I use the P-19 Redeemer or P-4 Senator, and for grenades I always use the G-12 HE. For Stratagems, I do Orbital Rail-gun for tanks, cannon towers, and hulks. Then I go with the classic Eagle Bombing Run, as it is a very versatile Stratagem, from base to group clearing. For my support items, I use the EAT's. Like the Eagle Bombing Run, they're a balanced weapon, and you get them in pairs and often. I love using them to take care of drop-ships. Getting enemies trapped on the wreckage and then destroying them with a bombing run is a good way to dispatch your mechanized foes. Then the Ballistic Shield. Heavy Devastators (Gatling gun + shield bastards) are rendered powerless against the Ballistic Shield, and it can tank far more rockets than the force-field pack, not to mention a smaller area for a rocket to hit compared to the force-field. I believe this to be the best for Objective Missions, but would recommend swapping the Ballistic Shield for a another Stratagem if its a Exterminate Mission. Hope this helps.
(Edit: If you were asking for a solo run build, I have no experience in high-diff. solo runs so I can't help you there.)

high level bots are way easier than high level bugs, at least in my perspective which is usually just playing this with 1 other person, occasionally 2.

Bots are more tactical than bugs and 90% of Bots can shot you back and have a ton ♥♥♥♥ of long range attack. You have to take cover a lot of time, dive a lot and be ready to die a lot. Every bots have it's tacticts and vulnerability to exploit. If you don't learn them fast you will probably gonna hate the bots soon

Just remember that Bots tend to shoot first before trying to go into melee range (with a few exceptions), so that's a nice bonus if you think about it:

You tend to see them coming.

Bugs can sneak up on you and Stalkers... oh my gawd, Stalkers... Well, you never have to worry about something like that on a Bot mission.

So in that regard, you tend to see them first. Take advantage of that. Get setup, call down Anti armor EATS, Strategems, turrets, stuff like that.

They also tend to have readily identifiable weak points from a distance. Red glowing vents? Aim for those. If those are turned away from you, circle back and try to outflank them (or ask a kind teammate to garner it's attention so you can take the shot). More so, all Bots (and their structures) have weak points you should be aiming for. If you're not familiar as to where to shoot at a bot, they increase in difficulty by 100% (if not more). Learn where their weak points are and go from there (Common "grunts" for example, can be taken out with a few shots to the head, while a Hulk can be disabled by taking out its legs with an AC-- or taking out its eye plate with a medium penetration weapon).

Remember that they are robotic, so incendiaries tend to do less damage. Take explosive/stagger weapons, anything with a stun, and go from there. Weapons that might be super effective versus Bugs might be worse for the Bots. Switch it up.

Best of luck!

This build works nicely against bots:

Scorcher or Diligence Countersniper
Grenade pistol + stun grenade
Supply backpack
Anti-Material Rifle (it kills everything in automatons faction)
Eagle Airstrike
Eagle Rocket pods (very useful against tanks, fabricators and turrets)

The stun grenade AMR combo against hulks and heavy devastators.

Cover, stealth, flanking. Some players like medium, heavy armour and definitely they work, but I still prefer movility, speed and stealth, so it's scout armour for me.

A build with the ballistic shield and Pummeler, AMR, works nicely too.

One more thing that some players are not familiar with:

If you see a Strategem Blocker with a Bot Fabricator next to it, take out the fabricator from a distance and the explosion will also take out the Strategem Blocker. If you have an AC, you aim for the white "flap" above its vent to take it out (And yeah, that's how you take out bot fabricators with an AC).

So no need to actually storm one of those bases if you don't have to.

Hope that helps!
