62% of the player base is gone....
arrowhead really hates success, huh?

what do you think killed it first? sony's greed or the constant pvp style nerfs in a co-op pve game? or maybe a third killer that im not thinking of. i kinda feel bad but at the same time, they did this to them selves.

Yes, because others (and possible yourself) are looking at the graph and declaring dead game/bad. It's an observation born from ignorance.

I mean if you bothered to use Steamdb and simply use the "compare other games" you can actually see the trend is unnatural...... I used 3 other games for comparison (Destiny 2, Siege and War Thunder) all live service titles and all differ widly in content and patch cycles but what stands apart from these games to HD2s is the player count consistency. all those 3 mentioned often have "sustained" numbers that while dropping, dont have insane drops like HD2 does. and ironically HD2 still has the worst out of all 3 of these.

Comparing to even more games the same trend is visible (HD2 with a very sharp decline vs other games with a much more gradual decline/stable player count across the months)

If we add even more games such as Warframe/Fallout76/COD/Rust these all again show a consistent player count even if there is a gradual decline but very slowly. again HD2 has a very sharp decline that as been consistent since its peak.

Now why that is we can only speculate but when going from month to month figures they lose roughly 40%+ of there player count relative to the last month which is not a normal trend and if such trend continues within about 2 months the player count will be sub 20k

The dev's knew sony was going to ban those countries and they wanted to let it happen, arrowhead doesn't even CARE.
If i'm not mistaken, the people who own the game in those countries can use it again. But no one can buy the game since the ban there.

If they could not use the game, Steam would probably be facing legal action, and they will pass the fine to Sony. And sure as hell Sony won't dare to lose money. Of course, i may be wrong.

Edit: From what i'm reading, the game is delisted in Steam in those countries, but in theory owners can still play.

It doesn't help that Arrowhead is so focused on making a game for everyone. There is no real difficulty or sense of accomplishment.

Players complain that there are too many patrols so it gets nerfed. Now there aren't enough enemies to shoot out on the highest difficulty level. This game is so boring now.

problem is a lot of those people refunded thinking they would never be able to play the game again and now Sony back flipped on the PSN BS those people cant rebuy it.

Well, i don't know the numbers. I mean, several thousands would be a lot of people, but i read that the game sold 12 million copies, i think? A small number proportional to total sales. Still sucks a lot what Sony pulled, but i doubt millions or even hundreds of thousands refunded.

for me..... i stopped playing because after one of the earlier updates my cpu runs hot. it ran perfectly fine before. this is the only game i play that does this. even when i play games like cyberpunk, my cpu temps are just fine. it really needs to be optimized. i keep checking back every now and then hoping for different results. but things like the menu freezing up and being unable to access my armory killed it for me. they need to work on the game more

true but when the PSN stuff happened it looked like it was levelling out short term players had already gone and it was the people in it for the long run left playing and there the ones that would care about losing what they payed for and refunded even some of the people who left may have come back from time to time but seeing they would be blocked and having the option to refund did so, no point in keeping a game you cant play but now they could have come back but cant. also it killed the vibe some one put salt in the tea its gonna take a lot of sugar to cover up that taste.

From a business standpoint the money is already in. They exceeded expectations. Supercredits probably never was a success, The weapons were crap. Crap after crap = no reason to want Supercredits. They are trying to create a demand for ship skins and drop pod skins with the last SC bundle.

Kinda true but also a hemorrhage situation could potentially set in. First to take into account is that Sony collects a hefty portion of the sales money and Steam also skims quite a bit off the top as well. Now you throw in the cost to employees, servers, European taxation rates and money, whilst still plentiful, slowly dwindles.

And then you get into the main focus on their cash flow which was going to be future sales met with microtransactions. As you said, the Supercredits is likely a huge flop and future sales are going to be stifled by Sony's decision to limit international sales.

Not saying they'll go out of business any time soon, far from it, but we're not talking Stardew Valley with low investiture and high yields. Because of the big splash this game made they will need to step up their game to either draw players back or retain the ones they do have and that costs a lot of money to do. With more and more people becoming bored with the "same old experience", they need to do something rather drastic or just watch themselves disappear into obscurity as "that game that did well for a couple months in 2024."
