And yes, it's very effective , much more than the ubiquitous railgun , specifically for these kind of bugs.
Also, you do not need to spray continuously . Burst shot is better .
I myself have had occasions where flamethrower has cooked chargers fairly quickly (surprisingly) and others not.
I've tried aiming the thrower a bit lower to cook em underneath more but not done any extensive testing to confirm this.
I love flamethrower though. Not to everyone's taste mind.
It's not really efficient, especially in 7+. You can do it, but....throw 3-4 impact grenades at them and it'll do the same job way quicker in a pinch.
Aim for their faces/limbs. It will bust the a$$ too.
Same for automaton tanks. Get a bit of elevation and chuck them at the roof.
I swear chargers have some kind of super armour at times where they take greatly reduced damage if any at all. Most consistently happens when they're stuck against geometry.
When done right charger goes down in less than half a tank and it feels faster than a Railgun. Problem is you're stuck moving slowly in place for the whole time while firing it, while most of the time to kill for Railgun is running at full speed reloading the second shot.
Understandable. The flamethrower is effective despite what people say.
If you use it right in front of a charger , it will melt it in a couple of seconds no matter where you aim ! So long as your flame hit most of the body of course.
The real problem the range of engagement is very close because the damage fall off is insane.
Imagine using a shotgun with half the range for optimal damage, it's very dangerous to use.
On the other hand the burn damage doesn't care of the range . So : burst close, run, burst close, run .
Agreed, as long as you spray it down the hole a couple of seconds it should destroy it.
I don't blame you for thinking it doesn't work because everything works inconsistently on them.
The game's imbalance is less "there is a lot of bad gear" and more "chargers have the most random hitboxes in videogame history".
Sometime you think you've hit a specific spot but actually the game registered somewhere else because of the delay.
Sometimes you can even hit multiple hitboxes with a single shot if you have a lot of lag.
It was very common after launch, now it's much better.
