Oh, good to know it's not just autocannon. I guess I haven't noticed it on other guns because I usually never stop their reloads midway through.
Feels like half my deaths are due to having replaced the magazine in my primary but not having let my character rack the bolt before the moment I really needed to shoot something in the face. Fun detail. Insane detail to have in a game like this, but I really like that kind of non-standard design.
Also the Autocannon reloads twice, you can reload only half the chamber (or reload as soon as you are at half) and it will only use half the ammo on the backpack.
- Eject the mag, happens almost as soon as you hit the button. One bullet will remain in the chamber if you had one.
- Insert new mag. Your mag count doesn't go down until this step is finished I think. I'm not sure if your mag can get lost during this or not should you get ragdolled.
- Pull the charging handle or racking the slide or whatever. This inserts a bullet into the chamber so it's skipped if there was one there already, meaning it's optimal to reload with one bullet left since no ammo is lost and you get the fastest reload.
Of course not all guns are equal, things like the flamethrower and machine guns might work differently, not using standard box magazines/closed bolt setup.
