I hope that’s not true, the armors are a reward for having trust in the game before it blew up
Some provided financial statements and interest in the project before the release, others provided extras and online in an advertising company on twitch. But a month later you come and ask: is it possible to devalue their actions? I suppose not.
It's not about devaluing anybody's actions, it's about FOMO. And many people - myself included - would happily support the game, IF we knew anything about the project. Why didn't we, that's a question for the marketing department.
Also, does it seem fair to you that while PC players got the short end of the stick, Playstation preorder bonus keys are popping up all over the internet?
Very mature. About sums up the whole "I got a shiny new toy and I don't want anyone else to get it" mentality.
idk why people seem to think they need everything. you will probably use it for a bit but will most likely switch to something new at some point anyway. same for them i haven't even seen anyone even use these armours.
your not missing out on much. but do you guys really get FOMO because of a few colours? does that not sound just ridiculous to you?
Nobody in this post claimed that they need everything. Personally, I only like the Knight armor out of the three preorder ones, but that's still besides the point.
FOMO is a phenomenon that stems from the human nature. Some businesses started to take advantage of it, which can make sense in the physical world. However, in the digital one, this is just creating an artificial scarcity at the expense of the customer, which makes it a bad business practice.
Now, in the case of Helldivers 2, the FOMO behind it has already happened - "Preorder to get these exclusive skins" translates to "If you don't preorder, you'll never get these skins", unless there are plans to release them somewhere down the line of course. Since we're dealing with a company that claims to stand against FOMO, we can reasonably assume that the plans to release those skins at some point are already in the works. That being said, we still have no news on that front, and from a customer perspective, a message that'd say "If you preorder, you'll get a free pack of three skins that'll be sold for a specific amount of money at a later date" would sound much better.
But sure, let's defend bad practices in gaming companies y'all, it worked great for Bethesda fans, Blizzard fans or Ubisoft fans, right?
You could have easily pre-ordered the game (I did not) and you would have those pre-order items. WIth that said, you had every chance to get it without extra money or invested time or luck to get them. You essentially didn't miss out because you didn't opt in. Someone that suffers from FOMO would have pre-ordered the game to make sure the got the items because of the fear that missing out on these items would be harmful to their well being.
As an example, if you decided to not go to a baby shower that you had been invited to (no other obligations prevented you from going) and after the event the hosts didn't want to give you a personalised gift that they had given to those that attended, that's on you. Choices have consequences and that's life. If I was the host, only those that had been present would have received one, no one else.
Yup, as I said in the previous post, the FOMO thing already happened. Question is whether the company decides to redeem it by releasing the skins at some point in any shape or form.
And if you're going with this example, then tell me - how would one be able to attend the baby shower if they didn't receive invitation or even hear about it? You can't be mad at someone for not attending your party if you didn't tell them it's happening. And I'm pretty sure that vast majority of the players who didn't preorder the game actually didn't know anything about it until after it came out.
