There's also a data pad that says we don't know who they are where they come from nor who makes them.
I've unfortunately been able to spend too much time reading the data pads due to zoomy teammates, but that's a good find!
They're definitly made by humans, but good luck getting the super-earth to admit that its experiments have gone wrong.
On the other hand, no doubt the ministry of truth will blame the cyborgs for the automatons.
That's definitely a theory, but super earth certainly doesn't seem advanced enough to develop a rogue ai though. We can't even train bombardier teams to land orbital strikes properly xD.
Not entirely true, we have a 4th faction that hasn't been hinted at what it could possible be yet haha.
So it looks like they are the Cyborgs or what's left of them after 100years of being in hiding.

Dunno if Warhammer and Terminator exist in the Helldivers universe, nevertheless humanoid robots leave little room for doubt as to their origin.
