If you just like the Javelin you will take it no matter what. If ur looking for efficiency, then like most other things in the game its dumpster tier.
Sometimes you're right, it wont 1 tap a big guy, but it will more then likely rip it a new one, and if you got an ally with any kind of damage output, they should be able to finish the job.
It's a team weapon so the reload is faster if you actually use it as one. It can be used from anywhere on the map as long as you're able to get a line of sight on the target, not the easiest to use on some maps, since low visibility, but even smoke wont block its sight line.
Also, this weapon is shockingly supposed to be used in ADS. If you use this in ads, you'll notice a drastic difference in how much easier it is to get a lock on the enemy.
My biggest dislike for the weapon, is that even with ads, it can still be difficult to get a full lock, I've learned this is usually because of something blocking the target. Even if it's only a bit of terrain, and you can still clearly see the target. Usually can be fixed with a small shift in position though. The other problem is ammo replacement, and it's knack for wasting ammo packs on the ground that wont refill it. Only supply places will refil 1 shot of this.
More often then not what i do with this weapon, is i find a good overlook of the area were advancing in. A good distance in the back of the line where enemies wont see me, but i can still see my allies advance. Whenever something big shows up, i take it out immediately from 500 meters away. When we get to a bot base, i wipe all the cannon turrets out immediately, then start targeting the factories or any other big targets like hulks, or tanks.
Sometimes ill take out a strider or two just foe funsies.
so what youre saying is, its not great
If it lands a good hit its super satisfying to use. It can even one shot a titan.
But unfortunately the lock-on system is kinda buggy/broken and doesn't work well enough. Half the time it doesn't register I am aiming at a valid target and sometimes the lock-on just disappears for no reason even if I stayed on target. I also only like to use it when we are a full squad since I have to carry a backpack for more ammo which means I have less defenses.
But right now there is no good reason to use it over any of the other ways to get rid of stronger enemies. They really need to fix the lock-on system. Make it faster, over a greater distance and more importantly make it work consistently without the weird issues.
In these cases the slow lock on speed and reload time isn't as big of an issue, since you are not shooting something attacking you, but your teammate. The weapon isn't very useful when you are being chased by something.
But it isn't reliable, so everyone bragging it is overpowered feels more like people getting lucky and not appreciating it, vs the reality of "Well, we had TWO Spear users and it is doing ♥♥♥♥ all, through no fault of theirs"
There one good thing tho, this weapon have very good troll potential, if you shoot 4 times you can pick 4 box from resupply and dry your teammate from ammo. ( Trust me there alots of asshat that do this they might not pick 4 but they pick more than one for sure )
Sure, increased amounts of enemy spam doesn't help. But it is the debuffs that neuter it more and make people gamble with the Spear that comes with multiple shots on one call.
