The argument is that with its access level ANYTHING could happen. Except the ♥♥♥♥ show that would cause if it did? Simply not worth the risk for any game or company not in or from china. So practically? no, no risk.

ok ty

I mean, seems Ok. to me - I have had the game installed since launch. You just have to accept that access level requirements but I don't believe the application will do anything malicious so I am happy to use it.

It´s so safe from a country which is known to collect personal data from their users (e.g. TikTok, Temu, Kaspersky, ...). :spy:

gameguard isnt chinese nor is it russian.

Its south korean, a very different world.

At the end of the day tho, just look at it this way, its been around for over 20 years with very minimal controversy.

Is there some ? sure, but at the same time, theres been a lot of pc with it installed with no issue whatsoever, the vast majority to be specific.

Many of the complaints about it arent even proved to be linked to gameguard in the first place.

Tbh for me it's not about who made it or whatever, it's a software that gets deep access into my system so its basically a weak spot for hacks because usually software doesnt get access to that.

Just ask yourself from where they get their money. Japan is one of them and investors / government make the rules. North-Korea is even called Democratic People's Republic of Korea, but we know what it really is. :funnys:

However...

Never heard anybody said: "Uh, nProtect - Anti-Vir or - Internet Security, that must be good."
Their products are known over several as not really safe (over 20years) and several times got data leaked.

It's a rootkit that has supra level administrator priviliges, can't be completely removed and if GameGuard wants or get's hacked can and will get control of your entire system.

But hey at least over 200K voluntarily installed this rootkit on their system so maybe if there is a breach you won't be the one targeted out of the herd.

Nothing is safe, AI is going to destroy us all within the next 8 years so what does it matter, you deserve to play something to have fun and relax before the Terminator future :)

This.

What you're doing here is installing a rootkit on your system which the devs have officially stated GameGuard is and if you don't believe it then go into the Anti-Cheat section and read their statement.

A rootkit is operating at the kernal level which allows it full privileges to your system so you could think of it like sharing your PC with another person or in this case, corporation.

Thing is, this type of measure can also be exploited by those beyond the company as an attack vector on your PC so in any case whether you trust the company or not you're willingly lowering the security of your operating system. I won't even go into data brokering that might be done by employees or the company themselves.

On top of this, the rootkit can possess bugs which might cause your system to BSOD or components to brick as some but not many users have reported so there an element of system integrity as a risk to factor in there.

Ultimately what you're left with is weighing up whether this risks, which are very severe in my own opinion, are worth playing a video game over. Remember, this kernal level measure was claimed to be taken to prevent cheating and it clearly hasn't.

I'll add on the fact that Sony has a checkered past regarding rootkits as well. Highly recommend doing some research into the topic of rootkits as well as Sony if you wish to make an informed decision instead of relying on information on Steam forums.

Here is also a thread with many resources attached for you to peruse. https://steamcommunity.com/app/553850/discussions/0/7599331480041741421/

It's extreme risk for minimal reward but the ball is in your court OP.

Your facebook account is incomparably more unsafe.

As safe as all other anti cheats which also do kernel level stuff which is all of them.
