Which machine gun is best?
This man shows us. Even 200 hours in I learned that these can pen.

Machinegun has 150 ammo capacity, medium armor penetration, slugthrowing 900 liberty slugs in a minute, but needs to be stationary for reload, which is BS if you ask me. Also has only 2 spare magazines. Recovers 1 magazine from both supply and ammo packs.

So, if you are stationary, it is can be better to use machinegun, but you will need quite a lot of supplies to keep it running, but most of the time, Stalwart reigns supreme due to the increased magazine acquisition and higher ammo count. They feel like they're doing similar damage per shot, since Stalwart tends to kill targets quicker in my experience.

you can change 1 mag into 2 if you take the supply backpack then you get another supply for another mag and 2 grenades and syringes
Not exactly viable. Not the support pack, the machinegun. It is currently has similar situation to spear, only spear has the worst way of handling ammo, being only able to replenish used round with supply packs. If machinegun had one extra magazine and replenished one more magazine from supply packs, it would be a sidegrade of a stalwart, being more heavy hitting with lower rate of fire, magazine and mobility, suitable more for defense, while stalwart would be the assault machinegun.

On topic of spear. Is it me, or spear kinda sucks? Only three rounds, can't reload from ammo boxes, relatively low range and damage is the same as that of a recoilless rifle.

It does feel like the mg43 needs some usability buffs along with the spear. Stalwart mostly need a minor damage buff.

Stalwart when I want to feel like a complete badass

MG43 when I want to feel like a complete badass, and run aound with no ammo.

stalwart is great until you have to actually deal with any threats larger than a stalker. the weak penetration really hold it back more than anything. youve got a strategem weapon that cant even shoot through hive guards.

Arc thrower enters the chat
A great day will be had if they fix how inconsistent it is on slightly sloped surfaces

Carry a primary that can kill hive guards. Scorcher or dominator works good. Scorcher is my preference, because it can half-a-clip bile spewers. But dominator is good if you can tolerate it, cuz it 1 hits basically everything smaller than an elite, and 3 hits elites. Except bile spewers. Not sure how it goes on them.

Now you have a huge wave clearer, and an elite killer, and a free backpack slot.

The Machinegun is nice and strong bullet for bullet, once it's on target. The problem is that's its only good point. Its mag is too small, its handling is terrible, it carries too little ammo, and it refills too little ammo from pickups. It's not a good enough all round package to justify a strategem slot.

Stalwart looks cool and is fun for low levels, but machine is all around better. Just bump up your fire rate to 900 and delete everything with armor.

ok now i need to kill something with actual armor. i guess i rely on my team for that? i can't accept that answer.

Stalwart isnt bad and will get the job done. But the Machine Gun will absolutly murder any medium armored bug or Bot where the stalwart will start struggeling with that. Both are about EVEN IMO and have their own use cases.

As a veteran, I really appreciate the difference between the LMG and (GP)MG. They are both great and an example of the generally good work the devs have done balancing many of the weapons.

I prefer the MG, but wouldn't tell anyone to not use the Stalwart given the plethora of Primaries that have MedPen.

And THIS, my folks, is where you get the A$$ hat Meta-Kickers mindset. If you don't have a weapon(s) that can do it ALL you're a scrub.

Complete disregard for team composition and role play elements, which sounds cool until you realize people don't actively engage in it.

You must have a team that you can't rely on that you feel the need that you need an every weapon. I myself an Auto-cannon user can bust up mid targets and on bug missions i can save everyone their grenades taking out nest and from the safety of range.

However, even the AC, can't do much against the Bile Titan, So the rail gun guy can save his limited ammo and work with the Recoiless (with team reload)guy to also take Titans if our orbitals are on cool down. Yes the stalwart guy in my squad keeps the trash off us the whole time :) and reloading on the run is critical on bug missions "you have to keep moving,". MG i think is better against the Automatons since you can reload behind cover anyway. Having weapons that can keep mobs off the team in always viable.

Hell Divers is a team based game after all so yeah i would do just that. Rely on your team to fill other roles.
