What utility do Gas and Fire have?

I thought for sure Gas would at least disrupt the Booty Shake Call for Reinforcements the Bugs use, since you're basically masking the scent they release with poison or whatever.

How about making it mask Bug scent so well they can't tell who the enemy is, so they fight each other. For Automatons, maybe it can corrode Armor by a level, so Heavy becomes Medium, etc.

Fire seems to slow enemies and do damage over time, but I do see some enemies simply run through it. I read it's almost useless against Automatons.

I was hoping fire would at least spread through enemies, AND THE ENVIRONMENT, as the enemies flail and fling more napalm everywhere or whatever. For Automatons, maybe it could do less damage but it overheats their weapons so it forces them to melee.

I was convinced I was just using it wrong each time it just farts me a couple of feet forward instead of actually lifting me or transporting me a useful amount. I only have plans to ever use it again to get the achievement, it seems utterly pointless.
i find its best paired with fast armors allowing you to get into any base super easily and grenade/grenade launcher everything in seconds and dip out untouched. also when flee'ing hordes its great as when in use your immune to fall damage so you can jump off of crazy heights and be good

the gas should linger longer, like theres no reason to not use napalm, but in that case why not use anything better then napalm?

False, although a charger already charging is not slowed. Unclear if glitch or intended.

Not that it matters since other weapons do better versus a charger than DoT effects.
gas is nice as a free grenade heh. short cooldown and the impact itself can destroy bug holes.

the gas itself tho, tend to be hit or miss, sometimes it seem to do 0 dmg, other times it will wreck a titan in a 10ish sec. It work okish if you toss it on a bugbreach spot, or if you can land it in a cluster of bots, but its main strenght is simply the very short cooldown for an orbital impact.

Stuff sure dies faster when set on fire. How fast do you kill a charger with non-fire breaker?
Basically that, it's not uncommon for napalm to easily burn/kill 30-50 bugs in one go, the issue seems to be the DoT damage doesn't tick towards your little skull kill count combo counter so people don't seem to think it's as good as it really is at zoning.

I don't know about anyone else but I actually really like this as an idea. obviously it would be useless as a feature against bots, but as a niche pick to counter bugs... why not. it makes sense. I like it OP.

I'm open to whatever opens up new strategies, considering how often the squad triggers the Booty Shake (at least for newer players) I figured it would be useful to suppress that somehow to avoid being overrun. Add to that the "bug pheromone/scent confusion" idea and I think it would be an effective way to make a quick escape to regroup, especially if you have like 50 Stalkers chasing you lol.

Someone said Smoke disrupts the Booty Call though, will test next game since I've never seen anyone use it.

Gas appears to be completely harmless. I have never seen it kill a single thing other than friendly players

I just tried the free fire eagle strats today and oh boi, they can't even kill a brood guard that standing in the flame for the whole duration (I was standing on high spot so they stand still), at least gas strike can do it but not this one.

But overall the dot effect in this game is just pathetic to all but the weakest of foes.
Incendiary is garbage, but gas is decent. Bug holes and buildings can be destroyed and it really thins the herd when deployed on top of bug breaches. It's nice being able to solely focus on the chargers, brood commanders and bile titans without the extra annoyances of the tiny enemies rushing you down. This is somewhat inconsistent though as sometimes it seems to do no damage and sometimes it wipes out all the small bugs.

gas is alright if you just toss it at a bug breach to kill the weaker bugs that come out and it has a really low CD. Gets super cucked by the OB scatter effect which is super common for bug missions.
Fire and gas are vital to the 'nam experience. Napalm, incendiary mines, flamethrower, and gas. Your team will love you.
From what I've seen gas is only really good at clearing those smaller enemies, provided they stay in the cloud for roughly 5-8 seconds. If you want to ensure it takes out a group (maybe one following you) consider taking the EMS orbital strike as well to stun them in place and then follow up with the gas to whittle them down.

Results may vary.

Wait, wut? Gas can destroy Bug holes? Can anyone confirm this? I've never used it in this way, but that would make it viable if so. Right out of Starship Troopers (the book).
