The last two are most important things as the moment you set the SOS Beacon, it will help you be found on the map on which the planet you're on or be found via Quickplay, if you do not do this, then the game thinks you don't need it but you still will be matched by others at a lower priority. Given the precious time you have, anything from 12-40 minutes per Mission and based on what Mission it is, you have to be at the mercy of the SOS Beacon, thus the next statement may be your better choice.
Matchmaking before Helldiving can happen rather suddenly and sometimes quick as you're putting a team together so long you have anywhere in between from having the Mission selected to the point you Ready and Helldive, as this'll then transfers to the previous said statement if you're in a rush to do something.
Just keep in mind this game is still fresh and having its issues, so its hard to even say what's really wrong from your end while I can say with mine its been almost perfectly fine, quickplay can be buggy as it can't "Find matches" because someone already filled that slot or just for no reason at all. So, it isn't a isolated incident and just matter of patience.
