Would you expect anything else for the military force that deploys with the colours of Captain An-Cap, no less?
Because it's a video game
consider all the stuff that happens in the game, and people being allowed to customize their uniforms is where you are gonna draw the line at being "unrealistic"?
Different specialisations have different uniforms: Simple.
I don't want to think too much into it but I'm sure its all about trying to instill as much patriotism so much you are left feeling important as a Helldiver and even more important to Super Earth which is why there's no regulation in standardized gear. On top of it, the average lifespan of a Helldiver in the field is 2 minutes...sooooooo....
Erhm... have you played the game? Lol. Think of it sort of like the clone troopers if you want... different armor and markings to distinguish between units, squads, roles, etc... Then if you want to be a squad where you are all from the same unit or something then I guess you can invite your friends and try to convince them to all wear what you like. Lol. Good luck.
you have many inpirations
start ship troopers
warhamer 40k
dread
and goofy 90s video game character color coding
none of this is "realistic"
