If anything, they can rock the Precision Air Strike, Eagle Airstrike, and a Grenade Launcher or a Stalwart. Their main objective would be to help take down the smaller targets while the higher lvl is dealing with the larger targets. IE taking down the small bugs, hunters, and even brood mothers. Even at that low lvl, the starting assault rifle is pretty solid and they might have even been able to get their hands on a SMG Defender or the Scout Rifle. Although the Scout Rifle would be locked to the Stalwart while the Defender can rock either the Nade Launcher or the Stalwart. The Machine Gun is fine at lower levels but as soon as you step up to lvl 5+ missions, the fact you have to kneel and reload makes it bad since you can't reload on the move and Chargers, Titans, and even Bile Spewers can easily rock your world. Or, you get butt hurt by a Stalker group.
