People will blame skill issues and friendly fire, but once you start making sure nothing you have is or can hurt your own goals, you will realize it is not your fault.
It seemed that the smaller mobs would head for the obj while the heavies would try to attack the players.
Also using explosives near the tower will damage it, it took me a minute to realize it and had to aim the nades further away or just focus on bug spawns.
Once you hit the button to begin the countdown all bugs (big and small) ignored our team and focused on the tower.
Everyone should watch different angles instead of tripling or quadrupling down on the same spawn.
Glance at the tower itself every once in a while to make sure no bugs slipped past you.
Don't throw airstrikes/orbitals too close to the tower or use the mortar sentry, since they damage the tower. EMS mortar is fine and very good.
If you fail, clear the area out before hitting the button again.
If you split up around the tower it should be pretty easy.
Once you realise that it becomes pretty easy.
