Opinions on heavy armor?
With armor rating supposedly functioning now, is there any good reason to bring heavy armor? Does it help you actually survive against bugs and/or bots, or is the increased stamina and speed from light still more worth it on most occasions?

Personally I use a light armor with 50% explosion resist and 30% recoil reduction vs automatons and light armor with extra padding so it's effectively a medium rating vs bugs.

Wondering if I should give a heavy armor set a try, if it makes a noticable difference or not and if the trade-off is worth it.

Yes. Your fat rolls carry no tactical advantage what so ever.

Heavy armor gives you like 2 more hits to live but it's not enough to offset being slower and taking more hits due to that

it gives you 28.5% more hits, its only 2 more hits from the weakest tier 0 bug (the scavenger) and probably the weakest bot hit. The armor even ignoring the whole headshot / limb hit ignoring armor, is just not worth the stamina cost.

most things that kill you when in light, will kill you in heavy, but also most things that never touch you in light armor, will touch you in heavy.

if your goal is to be as tanky as possible, then the hero of federation medium armor or the medic medium armor are your best bet (a medic heavy armor might be decent, but i dont think any exists.
The hero of federation has a perk that give you 50% chance to survive an otherwise fatal hit, which is a lot better than the tiny damage reduction heavy armor get over it.
medic ones are for the extra 2 sec stimpack effect (and having 6 stim is nice too). but just by using the medic armor, your stim pack essentially let you survive anything that doesnt one shot you.

My opinion? It's a joke right now

There's actually a medic light armor in the superstore right now. Not the lightest, but mostly light stats.
And the green star wars scout trooper that's light with 50% explosion damage resistance I feel are some of the 'tankiest' armors.

If you want to look like one of imperial strength, you need heavy armor. It's a power move that displays democracy as it should, strong.

Depends on the contest, like best dressed starwars theme.

it is completely pointless, it does not mitigate enough damage to be worth it.

Also in higher difficulties standing still = dead, because too many enemy spawn endlessly.

Even if they doubled its current damage mitigation stats I likely still wouldn't run it.
Legion Mar 11, 2024 @ 9:10pm
It's pointless and just causes more trouble than its worth eg, you only take a extra hit or 2 at most and it makes you slower so you end up getting hit more often ...utter ♥♥♥♥♥ imo.

Heavy armor has allowed me to successfully melee more units of the small size those squishy bugs. I think it makes me feel less stress... all that at the cost of just being slower so I have to prioritize positioning? Yeah that is a fun challenge that is low stress.

The 50% explosion resist is pretty useless. Somewhat better on heavy armor but completely pointless on light armor.

The 50% resist to explosion damage is handy if your a tad trigger happy with impact grenades, if you find yourself in range of your squads stratagems often and especially when facing the Automatons imo. I definitely survive the more 'danger close' strikes and rocket his in the 50% explosion resistance armour for sure.

With the precedent set by the first game, it was the most disappointing thing in the patch. Ballistics shields getting broken at the same time did not help matters.

Thank you for letting me know about that medic set, I was debating logging in tonight. Now we can stay stimmed up and dripped out in the name of Democracy. :steamhappy:

Well, If you're getting headshot by a rocket, It just doesn't matter either way, But further damming is that the first medium armor can net 150 armor points on par with heavy.

Heavy effectively loses out on 100 "points" of stamina and stamina regen for an extra "50" armor,

Light armor gives you a bonus 75 stamina/regen total for -50 points of armor, That's a missing 25 point difference.

At base, I want to see an extra 50 armor added to heavy armor, Or a 25 point bonus to both stamina/and stamina regen.

You take maybe 2 or 3 more hits than you would in light armor before you die. At least that's what it feels like. Not worth it IMO.

Speed is life in this game. Even on the suicide defense mission.
