Autocannon vs Charger Legs
Sometimes I can shoot a hole through their front legs in 2~3 shots. Shooting a hole as in, you'll see fire spout out of where you just shot, and if you shoot anything at that spot again the charger dies.

But sometimes even a full magazine doesn't do anything and all shots bounce off. I've been trying all day to try to figure out why. Shooting high on the leg, low on the leg. From directly in front, from the side. I can't tell what the variable is.

My "most reliable" seems to be dead-on and point blank, but even that isn't very reliable.

Does anyone know what the trick is?

The Chargers are known to be bugged right now. They sometimes will lose armor on their legs - this is due to some animation bug, usually happening after they do a charge.

Normally you should never be able to pierce the charger front legs with an autocannon. However, it's possible the back of the legs or the rear legs should be made normally vulnerable.

The "trick" for now is to simply wait until they get bugged then shoot the leg, but I'm not sure about once they fix the bug. They likely will be tweaking the charger besides fixing the bug as well at some point soon-ish.

Oh man, so I've been unknowingly abusing a bug.
Thanks for the reply, it was driving me nuts because it felt like if I could replicate it reliably it would bring the Chargers more in-line with other enemies as for TTK. But I guess the devs want every charger to be a minute long dive-dance. Bah

Yeah the charger is a buggy inconsistent mess.
I gave up on trying to damage it on any of his parts. Not even the butt. Sometimes it takes 5 magazines of direct breaker hits to pop that nasty arse off. Some people get it off with 1 mag.
I just use some strategems or the mech rockets.

AC works with angles.
if something is too high armored at an certain angle it will bounce.

SO if something is angled to you ( side scraping ) it got a higher chance to bounce.
try to hit weakspots OR flat surfaces you know you should be able to penetrate ( some armors are too thick / angled )

I know this, it's why I said I tried straight-on shot or shots from the side. But that hasn't been consistent at all. The bug that their legs lose armor after a dash is what makes the most sense from searching my memory.

Because I definitely tried shooting direct at the flat part of their legs and still get constant bounces.

thats because the leg all around is shaped / theres no real flat surface , hence why it sometimes works and sometimes not.

Nah, chargers are super inconsistent.

Sometimes I can use half a tank of flamethrower and it's dead.

Othertimes I have to use multiple canisters before they dead

Go for the exposed tail or the belly. As the angled hits on the armor have high chance to ricochet.

Pretty sure the belly takes more damage then tail, but harder to reach. Easier to do on uneven terrain and diving.

I consistently kill a charger in 5 seconds using the flamethrower by targeting one leg in front or back no problem here, Auto-cannon vs Charger Legs ? Bro i have no idea what's going on sometimes, its so inconsistent to the point where i empty 9 shells on one back leg from every angle possible and all was got a little consolation fire with the armor still on.
(20mm bouncing on joints is crazy too)

Not using the Auto-cannon vs terminids until this is fixed or a consistent solution is found.
