Are Hell divers in the pods clones?

Just wondering of the Hell divers in the destroyers clones or are they all just random people?

Makes perfect sense though. The civilian population wouldn't feel entirely comfortable with their sons and daughters being endlessly cloned and sent to die time and time again. Or there is an army of murderous clones that can be deployed to kill anywhere at any time for whatever reason Super Earth Gov deems a threat to "Managed democracy". It is much easier to sell people on lie that everyone's son and daughter enlisted instead of {x} amount of candidates were selected for genetic template and memory engrams to fight a 2-3 front war.

The player character just happens to still hold the rank and accolades of their predecessor, narr not buying it. The game director openly confessed that "the average life expectancy of a Helldiver is merely two minutes" That doesn't sound like a sustainable war-front by O-natural born humans.

There does appear to be some Super Earth Gov trickery going on.

The way I interpreted it:

The first screen you see when beginning the tutorial mentions a survival rate of just about 20%. When customizing your character you can set the voice pack to be random. And playing a mission, your default restock is 5 lives.

Considering these things and the cryo tubes used in transporting you, I definitely suspect Super Earth is just mass-producing divers. The random voice pack means they don't even care if they get the genetics right before sending in an extra. Hell, one of the TV dispatches mentions that millions of names get added to the wall of Martyrs daily.

...which is what I would say if I was a Democracy hating dissident. But I'm not, so I didn't.

I disagree. They're a bastardized version of how the marines were portrayed in US media. Helldivers are an elite force, but only by virtue of the other army corps having even less training and no equipment. They're functionally space marines.

What I figured, making my assumptions on in-game tip about using bureaucratic forms before each sexual intercourse, that would result in a pregnancy. That all Helldivers are humans being a part of population growth control system established by Super Earth government.

It all makes as much sense as a Mech Drop appearing 10 seconds later by a dropship but somehow you need to wait 3 minutes for a similar dropship to land and pick you up.

If you check the pods, they actually have 'REPLACEMENT' as a label on them, so make up your own mind :)

It's been my headcanon that they are clones, yeah. I'm sure the people who enlisted didn't know they'd be flashcloned over and over either. It's how I rationalize all the deaths after 169hrs, and still dropping in...

Thinking on that, it actually fits the environment... You will never return to your family/friends as the same person, let alone the same individual. A grand conspiracy... if you're a dissident.

It actually makes sense that there are so many. The last war was 100 years ago and in the meantime, for the last hundred years, Super earth has been stockpiling generations upon generations of helldivers in oversized freezers, from it's population of probably a few hundred billions. In all that time, I wouldn't be surprised if super earth was able to amass an army of hundreds of billions of helldivers all waiting in their cryopods to be deployed. Some may have been frozen 80 years ago, only to be thrown in the meat grinder, and the next one might have been frozen 20 years ago. There's just so many of them that there's no need to count
