Support weapon?
Arc thrower, maybe supply backpack or shield pack if you're just starting out. Supply pack is nice for nades/stims/ammo, shield pack is just general protection.
To be honest, playing with other players, even my steam friends it is disturbing, they stress me out. Tried solo and love it.
I just did a solo mission and basically had to go stealth for most of the mission as the spawn rates at the moment are ridiculous.
This ISN'T a game that's meant to be played stealthily. It's meant to be guns blazing carnage, and that's where the fun is.
The fact so many people are suggesting stealth right now as a viable option in a game such as this is insane but It's basically the only real option if you wanna play solo.
TLDR: Be stealthy. Preferred strategems are Orbital EMS, Autocannon and Eagle Airstrike. Preferred equipment is lightweight scout armour and a high damage primary. Use your map. Don't be afraid to leave your stuff behind. Have fun.
Stealth is your best friend. You don't want to get in a firefight if you can help it - especially if you aren't good at disengaging. Less applicable at <4, but staying out of fights means you're less likely to die in them.
My preferred method of taking out bases is to throw a strategem at them and reposition. The enemy checks where you were when you lobbed it, unaware that you're now watching from the other side to see if you got all the factories/objectives.
Good deployment kit includes lightweight scout armour, the UAV booster (both from the free warbond) and a weapon capable of taking out the small fry quickly. Stopping alarms from going up is your best shot for not being overwhelmed.
I find Eagle Airstrike to be the best destructive strategem for solo operations. You get enough uses to hit things more than once, and the resupply cooldown is generous (especially with ship modules).
You want at least one strategem solely to help you disengage from fights. Whether it's smoke, EMS or sentries for distractions is up to you (I've had the most success with EMS strikes, personally).
The Autocannon is very good for sniping objectives. Just make sure you don't have any enemies nearby, and don't shoot anything that's within a few feet if you want to avoid redeployment.
Don't be afraid to crouch, crawl or dive to escape enemy vision. Their sight isn't all that great if you aren't stood up.
The map is your best friend to maintain stealth. It tells you if there's enemies nearby, and if you took my suggested equipment, where your radar pings are too.
If you're getting spawnkilled, it may be worth blasting the area you're in with explosives. Yes, you'll probably die a horrible death, but it paves the way for your reinforcements to not drop on enough enemies to take you out before you can control your character.
Do the primary mission first. If you want to hit a Point of Interest, be careful doing so. Once you've succeeded, there's less pressure of wiping.
Drop samples (default: hold X on KB/M) at extraction whenever convenient. This way, you can just pick them up when Pelican One arrives and don't risk losing them in a giant base.
Naturally, make sure you're having fun. No point playing like it's Metal Gear if you want to go guns blazing. Pick a difficulty that's fun, and pick a fun playstyle.
Edit: Added TLDR. Edited TLDR.
Partially disagree here. Stealth in this game feels cool, albeit sometimes trivial. I absolutely prefer going guns blazing, but solo stealth gives the game a different feel and it still doesn't feel bad. Different, definitely. It's not for everyone! I've always enjoyed games with stealth mechanics, though, so I'm probably biased.
Ooh, I never thought of using sentries as distractions! At least, not in the way you're saying here. I usually just drop a strategem and let the impact get their attention, lol. Gonna have to try that later today!
I bring mech. I don't care what anyone says, mech is the best option to deal with breaches when you're at an objective.
I personally use railcannon and rocket pods, or railcannon and 500kg.
Flamethrower in case I need to kill a charger and I have no mech or orbitals.
Don't fight patrols, and if you do, end it quick. Overkill if you have to. Don't let a breach happen.
If a breach happens outside of an objective, run.
Only place you should be fighting is at an objective. Anywhere else is a waste of ammo.
If you are being chased by swarms and actively trying to disengage, focus on (in order based on threat): hunters, stalkers, chargers, and titans.
Every other bug you can sprint away from and are non-factors when you're running away UNLESS you have been caught by the 4 priorities.
Sprint until stamina is 0, shoot priority targets until stamina is 100. Rinse and repeat.
ALSO:
Slugger opens container doors. Best gun to bring if you're solo POI farming.
And difficulties 1-3 don't spawn rare samples in POI's, giving more chance for super creds to spawn.
Hope this helps.
Besides, there's so much more depth to the stealth in this game than most actual stealth games. You need to constantly balance different decisions. The longer you take, the harder it'll get to stealth, so there's a time pressure, but a lot of the more expedient methods will also draw more enemies to investigate. You need to be able to quickly kill patrols before they call reinforcements, then reposition quickly before others come to investigate the noise. Use stratagems or grenades as distractions to draw away enemies you can't safely kill. Even if you get detected, there's a number of ways to disengage, and if you do it successfully, it can actually work out in your favor to lead enemies astray and create openings to get objectives done safely.
In most games choosing to go stealthy means you're drastically reducing the mechanics you engage with. In Helldivers 2, not going to stealthy drastically reduces the mechanics you engage with. You're still shooting enemies, still calling in stratagems and blowing things up, but you're just being a lot more deliberate in your usage of such tools.
