No option to remove freinds that are online and blocking them does not work.

Blocked them.. within 30 seconds they are back and able to join my game.

Might have something to do with them being on your friends list? Remove them from your friends list on Steam and Helldiver then block.

I did. I'm assuming "friends online" means people on your friends list.

Blocking in-game has worked fine for me. But I've not attempted to block anyone on my friends list which is why I'm assuming that is where the problem is.

Edit: Nm, you want to de-friend them in-game. Its a known issue apparently and will be fixed.

If the person is online, there is no remove friend option, only invite join or block

It's completely broken since the last patch. Game randomly doesn't use Steam's friend list, when it does it doesn't correctly report if they're online or playing the game, sending friend requests in-game shows as "pending" on the sender's side, but the recipient doesn't see anything, and we need to switch to public to allow friends to join, otherwise they'll always see the "lobby is private" message.
