Getting kicked because I'm not using X, Y and Z is stupid, and that is what was happening to a lot of people for not playing "meta". A game with flexible strategies is always going to be more fun in the long run due to the many methods of killing you have available.
League of Legends follows that philosophy of just changing the metas on purpose for "variety" and everyone still playing that crap despises it.
people were getting kicked because the rest of the AT options are so bad
Because it is a pvp game. Changing the meta force players in their research of domination to adapt.
Here, there is no leaderboard. It's for fun. But forcing a meta isn't fun, as you're forcing people to use things they may not want to.
Or the devs just make one or two guns/stratagems per update stupidly over powered. Then revert it and make some other random one's even more broken next update.
Balanced doesn't equal fun, and it never will. Not in a PVP game. Not in an PVE game. Horrible balance is one thing everyone looks forwards to on a new game launch.
look at any fighting game for example, look at may in ggst
