I myself am partial to the anti-matiriel rifle that can reliably destroy them with 2 shots to the chest but I'm sure something like an autocannon will work as well.
If you find yourself dying to them too often I can also recommend equipping heavy armor with explosive resistance passive. It saved me a number of times and quickly became one of my favourite choices against bots
Why the stalwart and not the mg43?
Ammo, plain and simple, if you bring the stalwart vs the bits your main job is suppressing the enemy so your team can kill stuff easier, kill g the smaller stuff is then your job, luckily with huge ammo supplies that you can reload fast and on the go this is far easier than with the mg43.
Even without a supply pack you are packing 750 rounds vs 300, with the enemy suppressed your autocannons or AMR's can easily remove any threat, grenade launchers and arcs can go to town on the masses and rockets / spears have the space to easily target dropship engines or tanks.
To be fair their patrol route is very likely going to be between the very objectives we are there to destroy, but if a pointless patrol if they don't patrol where enemies are likely to be going.
