Buff to railgun ideas. Devs read
Hi! I don’t run the “meta build” routinely. I run AC and nade launcher. I have practiced railgun meta for a week before the nerf so I am somewhat competent, probably not at highest level tho. That being say, I think the railgun right now deserves a few buffs. Here is my thought:

Current state - most weapons have a “character”, something they good at. AC can destroy objectives afar with large ammo cap. Nade launcher is a mid/short range objectives destroyer with ability to trick shot medium/heavy together with movement reload and free of backpack. Even Steward has its power in destroying small/medium with a large cap/high rpm/decent accuracy.

Railgun has nothing now. Arguable you can overcharge to pull out armor destruction. But the risk and reward isn’t there and it feels like a more annoying anti-material rifle right now. Railgun has no “character” in the new version.

Here is my thought how it could work:

-Have max ammo 25, initial ammo 10 and with booster 15.

- each time you shoot, you decrease 1 ammo AND 1 MAX ammo. This makes sense since railgun wears heavily on barrel irl in navy trial. This gives each railgun call in having a max lifetime (25 shots most). Adjust cooldown accordingly such that barrel depletion is a real constraint but not too punishing when you lose your weapon.

- You are able to peel off charger’s leg armor with 5 shots without overcharge, no stun on hit. 50% overcharge = 4 shots peel off, no stun. 75% overcharge = 3 shots peel off AND stun, stopping it from charging. If you overcharge the rifle to 0.2 seconds before the rifle explodes, 2 shot peel off, with stun.

- similar nerf for against bile titan. Takes 2.5 times the uncharged hits to kill compared to previous version. But you can kill it as quick if you fire a split second before supercharging the gun to explode.

- when gun explodes on overcharge, reduce the max ammo by 5 and current ammo by 1, signifying barrel damage. DO NOT destroy the gun (unless max ammo is 0). At the same time damage player by 50% max hp ignoring shield. This makes overcharging less punishing to encourage players to try skilled plays. A mistake will cost a 20% gun life reduction and a waste of a stim (since if you are on low hp or making mistake twice in a row without heal = death)

This retents railgun’s unique character and encourages skilled play, at the same time it is a nerf compared to the previous version.

What do you think?

I can already hear people malding at the idea "Railgun just got nerfed! it doesn't need a buff!"
TFW the railguns role is literally being outperformed by the Slugger currently.

Pretty sure that when the gun with a literal function that can insta-kill the player at the expense of more dps is nerfed so hard that it's being replaced by a primary shotgun that -DOESN'T- do that, you may have a tuning problem.

I think the Railgun is in a good enough spot and doesn't need a buff. Those complaining about it being weak should try using it in unsafe mode.

And people complaining about it, really need need to learn the game a bit better.

Ya, making railgun not viable is pretty much against a diverse meta

I don't know maybe a precision high power armour penatrating weapon with a charge up to fire should I don't know, penetrate a lot of armour and kill things pretty quickly if you are precise?

No, no, that would be low skill and bad for the game. Better to make it bounce off armour, require lots of shots and more time to kill heavies than a flame thrower that would better fit as a weapon to fight crowds with.

That makes perfect sense.

People who enjoy an anti heavy weapon that rewards precision can use um... yeah... well... I mean they might introduce one right? It would be weird to have one such option in the game this early. Apparently.

Its soooooo easy to nerf or buff. Fix the medal issue !!!!!

The risk is a bit too much if you lose your gun entirely. While skilled players may find it okay, I think it is better to have mechanics that encourage unskilled players to become skilled.

(Also no other guns so far require you to hold reload and click each time to make them useful)
