Dev is openly mocking players on Reddit
https://old.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1b7wc4z/patch_01000100_for_pc_balance_changes/ktlzaoc/

Yikes.

It seems to me that every change they've made has been to artificially handicap players in the most unfun way possible. Randomly resetting liberation percentage when players win more than they want, and then now this.

The only "brainy" way to play the game according to this dev is to infinitely kite elites on light armour until you take objectives, which can be done for sure. Heck, I've done it a few rounds experimenting with the Scythe on Helldive, and won, but the experience only made me want to stop playing.

Handicapping progression is what allows them to stretch out the little bit of content they developed so far over a very long period of time for the sake of their drip feed live service model. I cannot see another reason why the warbonds are so extremely barebones and requires so much grind, and why they'd choose to nerf interesting weapons people actually want to use.

The sorry state of modern gaming. The core gameplay is GOTY material for me but everything else have been handled in the worst possible way.

Edit:

I can't think of a single industry in which you could insult your customers just because they give negative feedback.

But somehow for video games, so many wind up developing a parasocial relationship with a studio, and I'd not have expected see people so militantly defending the devs like they could do no wrong, loudly decrying and mocking and belittling those who disagree with some major changes made

Edit 2:

CEO apologises and says that dev's behaviour was unacceptable. Good on you Pilestedt

This dev has been incredibly based so far. Good that he's not backing down because some gamers can't hack it without crutches.

They wouldn't be successful without thousands of people paying 40 dollars. Stop boot-licking, It's pathetic, game development is a business, they aren't your friends.

By the extension of that logic, its a business so they'll release balance patches to appease to the largest part of the playerbase-- which is to say all the people that got knocked down a peg or two by the nerfs are objectively not the vocal majority now too.

lol i'm not the one complaining about hurt feelings.

game development is a business, that doesn't mean 40 bucks buys you respect. It never did.

What do you mean by crtuches? I think many of us can run around in light armour until we beat Helldive objectives with really ♥♥♥♥ weapons like the Scythe, but that's just not fun for many of us.

All the power to you if you like to run around or do stealth, though.

Reading the replies, they are not raging or acting in any way like some of you people describe them. They are simply showing disappointment at the dev's choice of words, which are annoying.
No really, you people, the ones who blow things out of proportion like this, acting as if everyone is throwing a tantrum that ends in a death treat to some poor terrified dev, you people are a cancer to gaming communities.

I've been reading the forums and I'm seeing a lot of people simply saying that the game is less fun, the changes have caused a shift in tactics that are not as entertaining as the previous ones. There are the occasional posts that get a bit too dramatic but those are very rare. And yet you people act like everyone is toxic and how the poor devs have to fight a battle agains their own community.

I'll tell you something. This game is good, but it's not way sensational. They keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the players, it will cause more of you people to do the same and eventually, people will leave. That's what you want right? That gets you off. Making people leave. Saving the devs from those nasty fans, right?

Reddit has a bad rep of being a left leaning echo chamber, but the truth is there are tons of subs that are all directions and some counterparts to popular top subs.
Just stop going to the top recommended subs.

Says who, do you have proof it's a minority or are you "trust me bro"-ing.

Because if it wasn't a minority it wouldn't make sense to nerf target them from a business perspective.

Which means since they did, that means that they are the vocal minority now.

Funny how that works.

The only ones it will drive off are the ones toxic to the community. Nothing wrong with a little balance.

People saying nerfing a playstyle kills a game? Nope. Requiring a specific meta to play kills a game. Players being snubbed because they don't use that meta kills a game. Nothing wrong with the "nerfs" It just makes them more of a playstyle choice than a must use equipment. They still are not bad. Instead they just are not an essential.

Toxic players like those kill a game and a community faster than adjustments to mechanics.

They sure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are! Not only have they made this incredibly entertaining game, but now they've made the forums incredibly entertaining as well! I don't think I've ever seen this density of babies ever crying in one place. It's glorious!

Or maybe they were rushed and did a bad judgement call based on statistics only, and not player feedback, A.K.A all the threads before the patch dropped, about AT weapons needing a buff. Funny how that works.
