Be. Real. Nerf vs Buff
I've been hitting Helldivers for awhile, loved the first game, easily 400 hours. I've enjoyed the second game a ton, but the nerf seems weird. It seems, pandering to the community.

I don't really understand why so many people are defending it, unless they really enjoy playing easy mode. I've been grinding out the game on Helldivers mode and have had a great time.

BUT, the reason it was so easy and fun, was because the railgun; if you knew how to use it; was strong.

I've since used every other gun, every stratagem, everything, with friends and randoms, and it's just insane. I die faster, even with teamwork it's really hard. I've tried to work with teams to set up certain loadouts, but its so damn hard now.

Now I love difficulty, it's great. But this just seems, kinda lame. I want to use the spear but it fails at locking on all the time and misses if the target is too close. Most other weapons don't hit hard enough, and the strategems that hit hard also hit my teammates hard. With reinforcements staying the same and stratagems being the meta, I don't get it...

I understand fighting against "Ok well we need you to run this gun and this pack or your out" but also like, maybe make the other guns stronger, make a trade off or something.

Again.
I love difficult games. I have friends who play this, who are good. I enjoy this game.
I don't mind the nerf at all.
But what about the other guns?
What about the vehicles?
Why nerf this stuff but not really do much else?

Just feels kinda... rough.

Just my opinion, let me know what you guys think, if you have a good strategy against what I'm talking about I'd appreciate it, but me and my friends have tried a lot. T

Thanks

im definitely in the camp that the railgun was far too strong -- no one weapon should be able to answer every question in a game centered around strengths and weaknesses

but someone mentioned earlier it might have been better to nerf it around the release of the mechs and vehicles and whatnot, and that i agree with

The railgun can't handle everything though, ONLY high armor targets. It's not too versatile or too powerful. The other anti armor weapons simply aren't good enough. Regardless of comparisons to the railgun, they just aren't good.

Spent all evening with my friends trying different loadouts and combinations. Tried crew loading; not viable at high difficulties due to low ammo, poor penetration by autocannon, and 5+ chargers coming from all directions.

There really is just no comparison to the rail gun. Which doesn't say as much about the rail gun as it does about the other options. Only a few weapons will hit through heavy armor anyway and only a few stratagems will hit through heavy armor as well. Couple those few stratagems with cool down times and call in times (not to mention effects like 100% call in and 50% cool down) and 7+ difficulty become tedious. 8+ becomes ridiculous with the sheer volume of armored enemies rushing you from all angles.

well, in any given loadout, you already have your primary and secondary which you can tailor strictly to low armor targets, especially when the breaker was meta.

if you twist my arm, yeah, it sucked against chaff, but it's literally impossible to join a game w/o having a chaff killer, so i find it to be a moot point. the railgun did everything fine, and usually better than weapons dedicated to that particular task (spear v railgun against a titan)

if they wanted to 'pander to the community' they'd do everything possible to avoid nerfs. It is an absolute certainty that huge chunks of a community will be outright offended by nerfs to OP crutches, a problem which has led to many live service games being jokes as far as difficulty is concerned.

that you've had a tough time using literally anything else is proof positive of how OP railgun was compared to other options.

There are basically no weapons to actually deal with heavy armor. Nerfing the only option doesn't make sense. We don't have another option. Especially with the buff they gave chargers. They have more health and can turn mid charger much better. WTF they were already annoying as hell to deal with.

The problem mostly came down to a lot of people overrelying on the overpowered to an extent that the >tool< was carrying people through what was supposed to the hardest challenge the game had.

The issue is then we went weeks where that is all some people used, they basically only came to know how to play the game using the Railgun.

So, outside of those that want to throw a actual meltdown over it, those that overly relied on it are going to have to 'detox' off of how OP it was and its going to take some getting used to as one explores other options.

-- Or just use it on unsafe and redline it non-stop and basically be the same as before the nerf lmao.

this part clearly shows you haven't tried the railgun after the patch, using double the shots to clear chargers leg armor on average isn't the same as before in any way of the sense.

Except I've cracked the front of a charger's leg off in two shots?

Maybe its you that hasn't played the patch? Or maybe don't know how to actually overcharge the railgun properly?

Maybe learn to git gud with the las cannon as this is now the new railgun crutch.

my personal take is if they wanted to nerf these things so badly, why don't we have other options for good anti armor.... the railgun as far as i understood the description was to deal with armor, that was the role it fit and it did it well, it was the big boy buster, could it kill other things? sure, was that ammo efficcient? no, was there better options for that job? yes.

people keep saying use the spear as if the lock on actually works and the projectile won't randomly just fly through the target and not explode (had this happend multiple times post patch) plus the ammo reserves are horrible to refill it you need a full resupply call in, all 4 packs for the spear guy.

then they say use the recoilless like it won't use my entire team's ammopacks to resupply after 1 engagement with 5-7 chargers and a couple bile titans. also good luck solo reloading that thing, and good luck trying to team reload aswell on higher difficulty when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan.

turrets yeah they'll totally prioritize the right target, and totally won't blow themselves up lol. you're not even allowed to properly place turrets ontop of rocks/cliffs so they can stay alive because the stratagems for callin bounces off of the cliffs.

had they waited with this nerf untill we had mechs/vehicles or something else to fuilfill the role of big boy armor busting reliably then i really couldn't care less about which gun i'm shooting at the big baddies, i just want one that works and currently i don't feel like i have any other answer to the ammount of chargers+biles that spawn except for run away from them because they're too much of a hassle to reliably deal with, and i just find that undemocratic in nature to leave big bugs like that alive.

sure you have, and the sky taste like rainbows, the devs literally wrote they nerfed it's damage, so it now does less damage.

You havn't played the latest patch I see.

Spear gets reloads from blue and yellow packs.

Railgun was far too strong. I'm still surprised everyone is this mad, but it was still 100% the right move. The game is not supposed to be easy at the higher difficulties. If you don't like it, play on lower ones.

No skin off my back that you don't want to accept the reality that its still useful and can still frontal crack in two shots if you 90%+ charge it.

Enjoy your skill issue diagnosis, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
