Can my friends see me playing?

I often want to play alone, but I also don't want to tell them that I don't want to play with them. I have my steam profile set to private, so they don't see me online under the steam friends section. But can they see me in the game social menu?

Steam has a new option where you can set a game to private in properties inside Steam

I don't think so, but, I have no way of verifying this for sure. Ironically, the people you're trying to avoid are the ones who can tell you if this is the case or not. :) Pretty sure they can't. I'm like 78% sure.

Right, on the "friends" game feeds, which I'm confident at least means the Steam friends list. But I worry the in-game social thing is different.

I cannot 100% confirm but invisible seems to turn off my friends list in game, so they shouldnt be able to see u. Would probably make sense to test it with a friend if ur so worried.

none of my business really but if they are decent friends I would suggest telling them that, sometimes, you'd like to play alone. If you're hurting for a reason,just let them know sometimes you just enjoy keeping to yourself or off mic.

I had my steam set to invisible and some of my friends joined but it was several patches ago so unless they changed it your friends can see you online in socials.

I can confirm that your friends show up on the maps with the mission in blue. I have seen friends online that I know were trying to play on their own.
