Heavy helmets?
Everything tries to target your head, even the knee high bugs try to target your head. So heavy armor without a heavy helmet just makes you an easier target without really making you tankier in a meaningful way.

The game at minimum needs heavy helmets to make heavy armor viable instead of it just being a way to increase the difficulty.

Personally I think it would be cool if the helmet armor effect stayed separate and you could mix and match heavy and light armor parts. Just have the helmets come with their own penalty, maybe a more zoomed in camera/smaller fov or something else.

As the game is I like the idea of heavy armor but I would never use it on any mission.

what about wearing llight armor and learning to play instead? being agile means you can outrun and dodge most of the damage the game throws at you. if you strugle vs bot bring shield backpack. but medium and heavy armor are the most useless things currently in the game. basicly its asking for a handicap to make the game harder.

How about an actual armor system and stop excusing the devs mistakes hmm? When did we stop keeping people to task? was it in the late 90s or perhaps between 2010 to 2016? Seems odd to just hand wave a lot of mistakes of a corporation that makes millions of dollars on the backs of customers then doesn't actually do anything to fix the issues that they promised to fix.

Pretty much agree with actually making heavy armor actually protect you. The excuse of "wear light armor and learn to play" is an extremely weak argument. Thats basically saying dont buff other playstyles or encourage trying out new things only stay with the "meta".

should be able to mix light and medium pieces or heavy and medium with heavy helmets .add a colour pallet system. WHY THIS IS NOT IMPLEMENTED says unfinished non polished business
Vintorez Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:17pm
Enemies just shouldn't be able to headshot the player, especially the melee ones, it just makes for a very inconsistent incoming damage profile that also devalues heavy armor.

Was it necessary to be toxic, you can't just be kind and helpful?

And on eradicate missions most people wear heavy, because not only does it help, people tired of looking at same armor everymatch and people have different playstyles than yours

Heavy armor will be useless when the apc or another vehicle comes, they are already, but will be more useless
StormhawkV Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:21pm
The bots actually aim for the head at all times, the Terminids don't. They just hit the head because they're either taller than the player so the strike comes from above, or they jump (Hunters), or they fly (Shriekers). The hitbox for our heads also seems to be quite large.

heavy armor should be atleast an extra 50% damage reduction than it is now, we already lose movement for a small amount of protection just give us more. i only run heavy armor but level 5 upwards it starts not making a difference.

and i agree helmets and capes should give something, like a less sway helmet and enemy counter helmet, then make the capes complete sit still objectives faster (like the sync pod) and increased stealth.

oh geez look the obvious lolicon has a toxic gaming take

who's surprised?

stop excusing bad game design, there's an armor system, it should work instead of being objectively bad except for light armor
Shibe One Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:40pm
I know it seems obvious but yeah, armour should work differently from eachother. Light armour is the only real useful armour type right now as it means you can move much quicker. But the damage absorbed across light, medium and heavy don't seem to make much difference in the slightest.

I loved the idea of using heavy armour until I realised it didn't seem to increase how much more damage I could take.
I love the idea of being a complete and utter tank in heavy armour using heavier weapons or even melee weapons like swords etc, bit like 40k (I don't play 40k and have no interest in it but that sort of style).

Hopefully the devs do something to the armour sets down the line because some of the coolest armour is medium and heavy.
StormhawkV Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:43pm
I also don't understand why the difference in stamina regen between medium and heavy armor is so large. Light armor has 25% better stamina regen than medium armor but heavy only has half of what medium armor gives you.
SupaPlayer Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:46pm
It’s better to simply run shield backpack or light armor for speed to avoid attacks, because even post fix heavy armor is really quite useless based on the current game balancing
Prince-Nyan Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:46pm
The game punishes you starting 7/8/9 for staying in combat, as the reinforce timer for the enemy becomes so low, majority, if not all, engagements become endless. So even if they fix the helmet problem, heavy is still in a predicament.

Quick fix they can do within a week is replacing helmet armour value with body armour value.
Long term fix, Heavy needs to passively (on top of armour perks) grant larger ammo/nade/stim reserves or combat related perks like reload speed, this is IF the devs are adamant about not reducing the severity of the mobility penalty heavy has.

It's completely busted that Light armour + Shield backpack, grants you the best of both worlds. Outrunning every enemy in the game, while surviving a direct hit 500KG bomb.
shadain597 Mar 26, 2024 @ 12:50pm
Here's a wild idea: until they bother coming up with meaningful helmet choices, just make the body armor's stats cover the whole body. If I'm wearing armor that makes me easier to hit, that extra protection should extend to the part of the body that takes half of the damn hits.
