Saying that 1080p is ancient is pure trolling. It is still the standard.
Or maybe you haven't seen how terrible current gen games really look like. Buy some AAA games and see for your self. Judging by your comment history you haven't played any new games recently.
Skull and Bones
Forza Motorsport
EA WRC
Kill the Justice League
We can go on and on and this game looks better than all of them.
This game has a lot of issues, but visuals and performance are not among them.

CRT gang rise up!
OP is trolling or playing on a toaster and is salty.
Judging by his post history, the most recent game he has played is Dark Souls 3 from 2016
I'm admittedly still gaming on 1080p/144hz screen (Though Im running 3x for sim-rig stuff), and they look terrible regardless of resolution.
Try not to bash on 1080p too hard though. End of the day 60% of all steam users use it. While 19% are at 1440p. 3.5% are 4K and 1440p UW is like 0.3%.
I wouldn't bash if OP wasn't complaining of how visuals look on his end blaming the game.
Yes, 60% of Steam users still use 1080p but that doesn't mean that it looks good in modern gaming, so it's irrelevant. Most new games are designed to be played at higher resolutions. 1080p is shrinking very fast in favor of 1440p.
BTW, maybe OP should tell us which games has he played in the last 5 years since he mentions the comparison
Personal opinion with new games and 1080p, they're fine. Obviously higher pixel density is better (RDR2 looks amazing at 4K on my TV). But the idea new games aren't designed for 1080p is wrong. Most UI/UX design almost always takes into account 1080p, even 720p resolution.
Realistically, 1080p is here to stay a good while longer. Adoption rates for higher resolutions seems to be stinted by the fact that most GPUs you'd want for 4K and high fps (Even 1440p depending on game) are still pretty pricey.
Caveat for 1080p though, any upscaling looks terrible. Most upscalers, DLSS included does not work well below 1440p. If you're playing Helldivers 2 at 1080p and you are not running it native it will look blurry and muddy.
It is not a question of price, more a question of actually requiring or needing the thing. There is a lot of people who sole reason to exist in life seem to be living on the very bleeding edge of technology, and then they wonder why said tech don't go forward faster and faster like they'd like.
Probably because the rest of the world don't share their interest and are perfectly fine with what we already have. The average person can't even see a difference past 120fps anyways. I certainly have very little interest in a screen which is so big I can't even glance at it all at once. Etc.
You know, practical and use case reasons.
Most of the time I am not paying attention to how things look, since I am mostly focused on patrols, enemy composition, positioning, the task at hand, ammunition levels, stratagem cooldown, the clock, how satisfying the combat is, etc, etc, but I do think that the game looks plenty good enough.
Whenever I see someone complaining that bloom or depth of field look bad... I'm sorry but that's the whole point of bloom and depth of field, looking bad.
