Mission failed after mission complete ??
launched the ICBM (nuke mission) on diff 7 (dunno if it matters) and i know it launched cuz the big explosion, only 1 person extracted the rest died but when we got back to ship it said mission failed and we only got like 400 experience out of 12000 or something

Are you sure he extracted? Sometimes I've had that people die the second they touch the extract. I think you can also die inside the shuttle, but I don't know how unlucky you would have to be to die as the last guy getting in.

Extraction is irrelevant to completing missions.

Only main objectives need to be done for a missions to be "successful".

Even if he didn't extract, the mission should have been successful. The main objective does not give a lot of experience, only 100 or so.

I one time failed a mission even though it said "mission complete" but got no medal rewards and the operation was cancelled because I managed to meet the objective request JUST as I died (clearing bug-holes) as my grenade managed to destroy it with my last reinforcement. The game seemed to give me everything as IF mission was complete, but no medals and not continuation of operation, I have the feeling the game got confused whether or not I failed or completed so it gave me confused messages.

I imagine in my case the announcement of failure was about to be given, but as my grenade made it in the hole and blew it up, said announcement cancelled mid-speech and the announcement of victory was given instead. Yet, the game still deemed it as a failure Operation wise.

Maybe you didn't complete the main objective. The ones with SSSD drive sometimes display objective complete, but it is just for one step and not whole mission.

Did you actually call the extraction? Or shuttle arrived due to mission timeout?

we called the extraction, the ICBM took off, unless theres random nuke-sized explosions (dont mean to sound rude if i do, apologies)

Need proper context here. A screenshot would've been better because once it says mission complete, it doesn't matter if you extract or not it should give you stars. If it says "Failed to extract" besides your name that's something else.

Just to clarify, how big was the explosion you saw?

I ask because just a couple days ago I watched as a Bile Titan stepped on a hellbomb in the distance, subsequently killing it, so enemies can independently trigger hellbomb explosions that could, technically, be considered "random nuke-sized explosions".

There is also this Nuke point of interest. Sometimes it can go off.

But if you called extraction that would mean main objective was completed. Their tied together. You can't call extraction if main objective is not completed.

Might be some sort of bug. I think I got one mission failed after extracting too, though I don't remember the details.
With the numbers of small bugs this game has, I wouldn't be surprised if some actually affect main missions. You can for example destroy Geo Vein Probe and got stuck with main mission progress.

It is probably rare case, so with out a video or some mission even log it would be difficult to determine what happened. Oh well.
