Laser pistol is bad. Just awful.

It's not only the worst sidearm, it's the worst gun in the entire game. There is no good reason to bring this gun. Even on a level 1 mission, it cannot keep you safe for long. It's genuinely terrible. You can barely kill a few puny bugs before it overheats. I understand it's a sidearm. It's not meant to be a top tier weapon but it's just almost unusable in any situation. The standard pistol can protect you significantly more than the laser pistol can. I trust the revolver to protect me more than the laser pistol, despite it's super slow reload.

It either needs more damage, slower heat build up, quicker cool down, heck, why not all three because it's just that bad. It's not a weapon you can rely on in the slightest if you're in a pinch.

Which is why most of us are using the Sickle instead because the beam weapons are extremely ass.

All the beam weapons are lacklustre. Even the laser cannon is rather lacking for what it does/how (in)effective it is against anything more dangerous than a scavenger or warrior level enemy, which sucks because I'd love to have it be at least on par with the MG.

Yeah, the beam weapons are cool but they don't seem very competitive. I like using the cannon to crack open storage containers if I'm just chill-farming low difficulty maps for the loot.

I've been trying to find a use, but it's rough.
One of the big advantages to the auto pistol is the ability to run away and shoot one handed, spraying down a couple hunters in a quick getaway. I figured that since this shoots a continuous beam it should be like... the laser powered contemporary of the auto pistol, but it's not even good for running and shooting behind.

The best thing I can say for it is that it does ok against Shriekers, because they're really easy to hit with beams in general. But even then, you're only going to down a couple before it overheats.

Maybe in an all laser beam build (primary, support and sidearm) it could be useful if you just cycle through all your weapons to basically shoot a beam of varying intensity constantly... but that sounds like a pain.

Even the Rover is more useful than the rest of the laser beam weapons.

Even against the baby hunters it can take out maybe 3 or 4 before it's overheated, and that's on a cold world. Totally worthless.

Also, the sickle is actually too strong and I'm pretty sure it'll get hit by the nerf bat sooner rather than later. It's a primary gun that can take out chargers by shooting their legs. I'm assuming that isn't intentional.

Wait, which leg? The front or back? Because it's still being deflected on the front side.

I think they may be referring to the charger bug that makes their legs vulnerable after a charge, but most any weapon can do that

Wait, which leg? The front or back? Because it's still being deflected on the front side.

Front legs, head on. It most definitely peels off the armor all on it's own and will down them. It does not get reflected off of them as one might expect.

I like it because it has medium armor pen. Good for swiftly killing the Nest Guards, Brood Commanders, Spewers. Cleaves Shriekers with a swipe from range, and can make short work of their nests. It can kill Walkers and does okay at popping heads. I don't find much use against normal bugs, as it takes longer than the Sickle to kill them. I only use it when I use the Sickle.

Even the Rover is more useful than the rest of the laser beam weapons.

for clearing chaffes its beautiful. The aimbot is amazing. It's also because the rover doesn't seem to have a spool time or the dumb nervous shake when firing unlike the usable beam weapons. Idk why you suddenly develop parkinson's disease while firing the weightless light beam lol
