freinds say im online but injoinable

my freinds cant join me, and i cant join them but the game says im online, just not in my ship. does any one know how to fix this?

Have you tried turning it off and back in again?

And what are these friends you speak of? You using cheats or something?

I haven't tried it with friends, but I can't join public games right now and Steam says I'm in the "main menu" not the ship or anything.

Check if your steam settings for friends list is public, if not change it to public and see if that helps.

are your friends crossplayform as that could be turned off in the settings
are you or yoru friends in offline mode too ?

try to get them to setup a mission but not start it, does that mission become green when you search for it from your ship indicating friends are on that mission?

Just to clarify: I can play solo just fine, it just fails to connect to anyone else's game. And yes, I've had public on and tried both enabling and disabling crossplay. I've also tried different planets, including the lower-pop automaton ones. I've tried quickplay all the way zoomed out, for over 5 minutes; it would occasionally try to connect to a game and fail. Oh, and I was able to play with random people just ~24 hours ago.

hmm let me try turning off crossplay and ill let you know what happens. everyone is on PC, no one is cheating, im online and updated. i might just have to wait until the next update- give me a sec

If you're not signed in to your Steam Friends you might be having issues that way.

im signed in to my steam freinds and online. they see me as online when im in the game instead of on my ship. I just tried turning off cross play but nothing changed. i cant join my friends or randoms.

You need to be online on Steam for anything to work.

I'm never online on Steam no matter what. To work around this problem I ask my friends to start a campaign on a given world. I look at the globe of that planet with the right difficulty level selected until I find them and join them this way.

Once you're on their ship they'll automagically appear online if you already have them in your friend list.

im online but i cant join people on the globe or in quick play. i tried redownloading the game.

It takes a while for the globe to update. It is not real time at all. It only update once every few minutes.

Update: I did not change anything on my end but was able to play with people last night. Got dropped (not kicked) at the end of a mission though, which sucked. I did turn off my Steam overlay earlier, and it is currently still off, but when I first tried doing that I still couldn't play with anyone.

If you are using Discord then make sure the Discord overlay is also off. Since that seem to be what make your game unstable.
