I run infiltrator. I'm primarily running bug missions at difficulty 8-9, and I find being able to avoid and disengage from fights far more useful than being able to survive them. I clear far more objectives, and missions, solo than I do with teammates - simply because my teammates prefer to fight, and get stuck doing exactly that for 15-20 minutes at a time. Objectives just don't get done because they keep aggroing things and keeping fights going.
You also have the opportunity to get close and blitz bug groups before they can pop a breach, which is immensely useful in higher difficulties.
the recoil buff
As a autocannon addict, this thing is basically a must have for a "FUN" experience +crouching
Long range strategems and nades are fine and all, but the most appealing thing is that I can throw a resupply pod ahead of me and keep sprinting and the pod will be there when I get there, resupplying on the move between objectives just FEELS so damn good.
I survive so many thing with this passive, random rocket random headshot random friendly fire dmg.
The most dangerous moments are when i get surrounded, so popping a stim and having a short time of almost invulnerabilty saved me so much more than the 50% roll.
The one that does recoil/explosive resist is good for bots, and Peak Physique armor is fun for bugs. Medic is also good all around.
I used to use Democracy Protects (no bleed out/50% death resist) but if you just don't die it's useless, so I prefer to go for benefits that help me in a fight.
Why not the other way around? Because bot rockets aren't nearly as threatening as they used to be, especially compared to the various chainguns. And explosion resistance covers spit attacks from bugs, which means spewers are slightly less awful to fight.
I've also been trying out the newest armor passive, Peak Physique. It's a lot of fun to use with heavy primaries and support weapons combinations like Dominator + Heavy MG for bots or Eruptor + Stalwart or standard MG for bugs.
