You can try dropping Mines, Gatling gun , so forth in the bug area before attacking. It stirs things up for the bugs and you.

We eventually got it done after a third set but it was funny just not seeing ANY show up. Yesterday we were tripping over them.
I fully agree that the most important thing is to have fun.
But if the difficulty is too much then you should consider lowering what level you are playing on. It is correct that people should bring diverse loadouts for higher difficulties, that's just how the game is played.
Please stop mistaking inconvenience for depth. I might make it my life purpose to erase every spitter that enters my sight, but that does not make it a skill issue for those wishing they had a loadout more suited to the mission.
Honestly they are a bit overtuned anyways. I focus down spitters because their darksouls 2 grade hitboxes on the spit, not because "I am filling a niche role in a diverse loadout in this tactical game of strategic thinking" that mindset gets people killed more than being honest.
Also, don't forget. this is a game that STILL does not even let you look at the mission type or debuffs when reinforcing 90% of the time. I bring a generic loadout instead of a "team comp based" loadout because you can't trust relevant mission data to be available.
Team comp would be bringing airburst which I actually like more. reality is often "oops it is a mission with orbital scatter. which I was not allowed to know." so ♥♥♥♥ it why risk it.
