My rig is fine and water-cooled. My CPU never goes above 60 degrees. The patched f'ed something up. Cya soon, because I'm sure you come back to this thread to apologize for this version of "git gud" :P
Cooled by a corsair H150i
FPS limiter on - 54c
FPS limiter off - 54c
Sounds like you have a hardware issue.
Old thermal paste.
Paste not applied properly.
Dirty fans.
Poor airflow
to name a few.
Also, have you tried this? I've always run with frame limiter, and had no hardlocks or very high CPU usage. Am running AMD 5 5600.
Edit: More specific info: CPU usage went to ~75-80% across the board in game, from a baseline of ~5-15%. Frame limit of 60, which was being met. All graphics max, with minor exceptions (motion blur, DoF and AA were off). Running around the ship and poking around the Stratagem shop didn't seem to have any increases in usage. Don't have time to test on a planet right now.
I don't notice any utilization differences but I still get my CPU running 3 degrees hotter than normal (70c without the limiter on versus 73c with it on) and I get occasional hardlock bursts that are not present when the frame limiter is off.
Had two of two games freeze, then Fans spun up.
People are mentioning possible connection to arc weapon use

I had her copy my settings, and it took her CPU usage from 70-100% down to 40-60%.
I think render distance may be the culprit? Don't know for sure.
It's not git gud. It's fact. A game can not overheat a system that is properly setup. It's either a voltage or airflow issue that you missed when you built it. The game is just showing it to you. A lot of Motherboards overvolt CPUs now and it causes them to heat up.
The 12th, 13th and 14th gen intels especially. Either learn or don't. That's on you.
