New day same old black screen
Got two games in and got stuck on loading screen coming back from mission. Had to exit game and now I get a black screen on start up.

I'd also turn hibernation off to make sure you're doing a proper restart

I'd check your system log before and after the game starts and fails, any events generated ?

Download debug view and open that to see if any messages are output, make sure Win32 is ticked

All I know is the black screen will only show up after losing connection to the server. When I wait a while I'll have access again.

its pc black screens are common on pc, which is why i usually exclusively play consoles to avoid having to upgrade my perfectly capable gaming midrange pc from 10years ago,
which should be able to play anything a 10year old console hardware can play(iirc ps5 uses a ryzen 5 apu from 2018 or whenever 4000 or 5000 series came out)

but yeah upgrade your pc to avoid black screens

anyways without anymore info its hard to pinpoint the cause.

it could be cpu gpu hard drive/ssd being pegged at 100%(this is what causes black screens the most in my experience which is caused by a dying hard drive/ssd) not enough ram(which windows itself eats up alot of ram for some reason,

please list your pc specs so we can pin point the reason,

example i have:
ryzen 5 2600(kinda modern still able to play games pretty damn well)
amd rx 6650xt(gpu is the newest component in my 10 year old pc)
24gigs of ram(i do random tests so i mix and matched ram to see whats stable and whats unstable)
a dying 2tb hard drive where all my games are on
and a 500gig ssd for windows only,

so please like i said list the specs so we can pin point

so what should i do?

you need to go exploring for more information, in the game directory, your documents directory, type %appdata% in your explorer address, explore there. You're looking for any files that are linked to helldivers that references some sort of log, such as helldivercrash.log or helldiverslog.txt or helldiversstartlog.txt - you get the idea hopefully. If it looks relevant, open it up and scan over it, you're looking for errors, things that fail, post anything interesting here, I'll be able to understand it.

Damn man this is too much for me
Delete (or rename) the settings.dat file located in %appdata%\roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2\crash_data.

Don't ask me why but deleting that file and letting the game re-create it fixed it for me. Still can't play the game since the servers are full, but at least I can launch the thing now instead of staring at a black screen.

The test is easy, open a DOS prompt, type 'netstat -s', monitor 'Segments Retransmitted' go onto a speed test website like speedtest.net, start a speed test, if you see Segments Retransmitted increase then you're getting dropped packets.
It's the game that's the issue not on our ends.

nearly 200,000 players would disagree, I've no doubt they have something in their code that is unreliable and / or even the anti cheat but I'd still say you must have some hardware and / or software that isn't sitting well with helldivers. They may produce a fix but if it was me and I wanted to really play helldivers I'd be looking / checking my hardware etc. Have you tried reducing the settings, playing at 1080p ?

So what your saying is it's people hardware that's the problem and not the game.
There's all the sudden a black screen when the game was working just fine earlier today... just look at steam or discord there's thousands of people with the black screen issue.
and 60k+ people decide to just close the game in the last 20mins something is wrong with the game.
