what does armour actually do?
So I bought the super thicc armour currently in store with the 144 + extra padding and I honestly feel like I take the same amount of damage

same :(

the perks are more important.

I run the one that takes 50% less from explosions, which is important when playing with others lol.

As said I think the bonuses matter more than anything. Like the Deluxe Armor has it so you have a chance to not die when taking life threatening damage and I can't tell you how useful it is when fighting chargers or whatever they are called.

Have you seen Starship troopers??? No matter how much armor the enemy can still slice and dice you. My only complaint is the slow debuff is a bit too much.

I found heavy armor to be useless you seem to take the same amount of damage & if there is a difference it's so negligible it doesn't help at all and your just slow & run out of stamina fast I found one of the best armors to be light armor with extra grenades

I find the heavy armor better for fighting bots (who shoot) compared to fighting bugs (you you absolutely want to stay far away from).

same
i tend to mostly run that orange armor from the battle pass (or whatever its called) that provides less recoil while crouched and 2 extra grenades

You will notice the difference against small damage

Such as small bugs and stalkers you can take 2x more hits
But against an Elite Soldier Bug or Charger you will only take one extra hit

So armor is good if you plan on using things like railgun or shotgun where you are more likely to take a hit to kill a bigger bug while being sorrounded by smaller bugs

I use light armor and I agree with the above. It gives me speed, which is handy. I use stims a little more than the people I play with but the bonus to speed really makes a difference. I get to the objectives a lot faster than everyone else.

yeah so seems I should just go light

I'm honestly quite surprised that Arrowhead seem to have learned nothing from Helldivers in terms of player feedback. I distinctly remember having the exact same discussion there, too. "What does heavy armour actually do, besides slowing me down?" Truth be told, I don't know that, either.

So long story short - do we know what the "armour" stat actually does? Is it extra health? Damage resistance? Some other obscure mechanic?

Heavy Armor is just bad and a trap.

This game should never feel slow, heavy armors making you too slow makes me never use them, and the planets that decrease stamina are literally not worth playing on. So much time wasted just trying to make it between points on the map. It is genuinely not fun running across an empty field for a minute before I get to play Helldivers again, considering most planets are literally barren in between points of interest

Armor type current does nothing for damage, just speed. For comparison.
