For now there are "premium" branch of items, which you can unlock by farming "premium (not exclusive for real money currency) credits". Yet, it doesn't have anything "game changing" like it have, say, in Payday2. All armor in "credit shop" have same parameters as "regular", weapons in regular branch is more effective, imho.
So, do not worry, it's not Chinese money sucker game.
Look at Darktide, Vermintides, Deep Rock Galactic, etc. This is a 4-player co-op shooter like those, but does its own thing. It's basically like Helldivers 1 but the perspective is now third person.
The game does have MTX, but it also lets you earn premium currency from playing the missions. Choosing to buy premium currency only lets you skip some of the grind in the game, it won't give you anything people wouldn't be able to unlock for free over time.
You land on a planet/operation of your choice. That operation has one or more main objectives. You need to complete them before you can leave and gain rewards. There are also several optional objectives that you can, but don't have to, do to earn additional rewards. Finally there are also 'sites' for a lack of better words that will also give you additional rewards if you complete them and I'd consider them fluff.
The game is coop and to my knowledge, entirely PvE with a maximum of 4 people.
There is a micro transaction shop in the game and some of the items have gameplay impacts. However, I would not consider them pay to win and they certainly don't confer such an advantage that other players will not have fun because one guy has a paid set of armor or paid weapon. The game is also 100% playable without ever buying anything from the superstore, as they call it. It is also possible to earn the money required for the superstore, but no idea if the rate is good or if it takes forever to get something for free through grinding.
As for the one question I didn't address, it is neither campaign nor aimless, it is more like an in between game. When you play, there is a map with two factions that are encroaching on the humans. You select a sector that contains planets. You select a planet that has conflicts on it, you select operations on that planet and you launch. When you succeed, you liberate part of that planet and progress is shared among the entire community. As we haven't 100% liberated the entire map yet, can't say for sure what will happen at the end, but if it is like the first one, the map will reset and we start all over again. So there isn't quite a story that you do once and you are done, but it isn't aimless either because technically there is a goal.
I hope this answered most of your questions!
But your playing as the marines.
No, nor those marines. Your not ODST. Your just the regular marine pit into the game to get u your head bitten off off screen to make the Master Chief look tough and strong.
You're not tough and strong. You run away from the enemies because if you don't, your head gets bitten off.
100% honest truth. I guess you don't see that in the commercials they put out huh?
I wonder who is telling the truth here? The ads, or the troll?
