IGNORE THE JESTERS, Let's talk about the game monetization for a moment.
Take a break from the world of Jester Farmers and let's share thoughts on the game's monetization.

I'm personally surprised to see the outcry of "P2W" when, in reality, the game stands as a shining example of how a live-service game should handle its monetization.

All items in the store are accessible for free because of the premium currency earned through missions. I've acquired every cosmetic item available in the shop without spending a dime.

ALSO the cosmetic items are actual MICROtransactions; they cost like $1-2.

The current trend in gaming industry is insane, as some games sell skins at prices reaching 50% of the base game value, yet they label these transactions as "Microtransactions" A more accurate term would be "MACROtransaction" given the cost...

If the game continues to operate like this in the future with the introduction of potential new content like vehicles, weapons, and stratagems, it seems set to become one of the most fair "live" games available.

I have to agree with this. I was surprised to see how fair it is. However like all games you pay for there will always be "Those people" that cry about P2W, or too expensive for a $40 game + microtransactions, while sliding their credit card down the crack of their waifu game at $1000 for a chance to get a character.

D4 even followed CoD: Warzone pass where as long as you complete it, you get currency back to buy the next BP, not to mention a bunch of cosmetics etc. People are upset with a $10 BP that returns nearly 75%? or more of the paid currency for the next BP. Seems extremely fair, especially considering the predatory practices of most gacha or games in general these days.

Yup.

Still kind of scuzzy, but this isn't Darktide by a long shot. Skins there cost like $15, the base skins are ugly and low effort, and there is zero way to earn them without real cash.

This is one of the least onerous cash shops I've ever seen. Damning with faint praise, perhaps, but still true.

It's even more astonishing that a game published by Sony was allowed to take this approach.

After their insane price increase with PS+, I made the choice to avoid the entire platform and perhaps only consider purchasing physical games that I could later resell.
Is it really surprising they lie about the game being p2w? They also lie about the anti-cheat uploading your harddrive to china, the game getting 5 fps on a 4090 etc etc the lies never end from the clown farmers.

If the next Premium Warbond is also 1k, I'm almost able to buy the next two Premium Warbonds coming up by just playing.

The armors in the shop and in the Premium Warbonds are just skins/variants of the vanilla ones.
The guns in the Premium Warbond are also mostly a letdown compared to the vanilla weapons.

It's sad, but in a way, Valve is to blame. They've created an environment that incentivizes individuals to troll and seek controversy for rewards.

I'm there with you but realistically, it may not be feasible in the current era. Games of this scale, backed by large companies, require a sustainable and profitable model, especially when designed to provide content over several years.

Ok lets not talk about the p2w thing. But there are other problems, for example:

1) we have no idea that is coming in the future. Some devs drop the full shop after all the reviews are out.

2) this monetization system is not super predatory, but I cant see how with such system they will fund themselves to release updates/fix the old and new bugs and do everything in time. I mean not once a year.

3) Expansion to 2 point. At some point they have to start working with another project. Either they hire more people, or split resources, which will lead in less or lower quality content. New PVE games are great only if they get constant updates - just my personal opinion. I played all of them, from darktide to back 4 blood but neither of them gives l4d vibes (also that game had mods).

Edit:
4) this game is a live service, always online, it does not have bots, I would say solo is barely playble (I know some of you eventually will beat the hardest difficulties by playing solo), but still. So the future is important for this game or else its just another dead game in the library you cant play anymore.

Yeah, if you want to see some predatory micro transactions go check out Darktide, or any Blizzard game.

1. Sure but changing to an anti-consumer approach would affect reviews, that's why we have a system of "all reviews" and "recent reviews".

2. Companies base their monetization strategies on data, that's why most of them are so predatory, we all complain but they ultimately work. However, in this case, there seems to be a deliberate effort to establish a fair model.

3. True, every company eventually decides to transition to a new project. It's a normal progression in the industry but looking at HD1 we have years to enjoy this one.

I'm still against most things being for sale right at launch just leaves a bad taste just cut content added back in for more money just never liked that in gaming

There is prostate cancer and then there is pancreatic cancer. Thankfully this is leaning towards being ass.
