The Vomit bugs (Ticks?)
Just played a game on Hard a bit ago.. yeah, Hard. Level 5 difficulty. Think it happened on challenge too, but why is it that these bugs can just instant kill you with their undodgable (I haven't found a way yet), sniper range vomit? I saw multiple instances of just.. 4+ of these suckers, all durable as hell, basically just steam rolling me or my squad..

Personally I believe they need a hell of a nerf, considering Charger's pose less of a threat than them. What are your opinions on this, and your advice for dealing with them fellow divers? I've found railing them with two auto cannon shots does the trick, but what's some good strategies for avoiding them? Even with light armor, they outrun me. And yes I know scout armor has less armor, but I insta died even with medium armor as well. Cheers and good night.

Yeah, I'm not talking about the charger bugs tho lol.

They are extremely powerful, but you can one shot them with any grenade (impact grenade works best), and usually dive out of the way if it's too late to stay far away from them. But that's the best way to deal with any level of bugs: Stay away from them. If a super soaker is in range to hit you with its main attack, you're too close. You can also bait them into melee attacks if it's too late, since their melee range and reaction time is very poor.

Yeah I've *tried* diving out of the way, but it never works they just seem to.. auto track me. I'll keep at it, though. Thanks all for the suggestions. I still stand by my opinion however that they need a balance pass on some difficulties, they still kinda feel absurd.

Edit to add: I DO try to stay out of range, but even while sprinting in light armor they seem *faster* lol

It might be your ping or connection, you should be able to definitely dodge but I feel like sometimes their breath attack hit detection is dodgy and pretty buggy too. I've found that dodging/going prone out of the way is way riskier than me just straight up running to the side to avoid their breath attack since I've consistently done it in Helldive difficulty without much issue, of course getting surrounded is always a possibility, so you'll have to be extra careful in not letting them get close to you in the first place.

Also... the Shield Generator backpack, I've found, works on them too, at least partially - I went with an entire run with the backpack on and had gotten close to a bunch of them, they spewed their breath and the shield seemed to have absorbed it. I don't know if it's intentional though.

Wait, your sniper range is literally flame thrower range? Or do you mean the artillery style mortar shots?:raven:

I was exaggerating, though I thin kthat much was obvious. I will say however that I still believe it's larger than the flamethrower. They've hit me from quite a bit away regardless.

Running side to side does work, though, so problem.. kind of solved. if there isn't more than 2 or 3.

Grenades/GL/Railgun one shot them. 3-4 shots to the face with most weapons.

You can dodge them... but yeah would be nice if it wasn't just insta-kill.

A quirk to that, they tilt their head just before firing, so if you can pay attention (which you usually can't because theirs other things going on.) you can dodge in the direction away from their aim.:raven:

I disagree. Comparing those to Chargers is like comparing Artillery and Armor, which is what their roles are analogical to. The ticks are Bile Spewers. They are moderately tough. I use the Autocannon on them. Two good shots can take them down on Challenging (Diff 4) and they hit zones are huge compared to the armor Charger. The Material Gun should be useful too.

It's still fair to compare their overall difficulty to chargers, lol.

I find chargers easier to manage overall than I do spewers. 2 Chargers I can dodge, 2 spewers ... a bit harder. And considering their spawn rate is typically double or triple chargers, 2 chargers vs 4 spewers? Yeah, the answer is obvious.

Sometimes their vomit instakills you , sometimes they only deal half hp dmg. Overall it's super inconsistent. Also the game says that you got: "Killed by unknow"

You can side step their spit by walking (not while aiming though). They are very dangerous but they die quickly with headshots. Just don't shoot the backsack with normal ammo. You can kill one with half a auto shotgun magazine to the head. Due to their number, they are often a threat you want to take out with support weapon.

Grenade launcher and Autocanon eat thoses on breakfirst with two body hit. So does hand grenades but you don't have as many and it's harder to refill.
Heavy machine gun and minigun turret shred them.
Railgun will kill them in one headshot or 2-3 body shots.

energy shield will gives you more leaway to survive getting spitted on by tanking the first hits of the acid stream. Also, acid don't do that much damage to energy shield, so you can actually almost tank a full volley. It won't protect you from them blowing up in your face though ( that's also true for small green spiting bugs and green soldiers insects. )

It's dodgeable, maybe try using that.... dodge move that they taught you in boot camp.

If you read the rest of the thread, you'll see that we've already spoken about this topic and that running to the side is the answer here. I'm going to mark my own comment as the 'answer' to this thread, because multiple people here have given me this advice and it was indeed the general strat to surviving them. Cheers to you all, fellow divers.

Edit: Wow I can't mark my own comment as answered, so hopefully this still serves as the thank you to all who suggested running.
