PC performance and Windows 11 VMP
I've seen a lot of people having issues with performance on PC. One of the things at least on Windows 11 you should know about is the option for turning off the virtual machine. VMP provides core virtual machine services for Windows. Memory Integrity helps prevent attackers from injecting their own malicious code and helps ensure that all drivers loaded onto the OS are signed and trustworthy. It will be enabled by default on all new Windows 11 devices.

Windows provides choice and control for users to configure their PCs to meet their specific needs, including the ability to turn Windows features like Memory Integrity and VMP on and off. Gamers who want to prioritize performance have the option to turn off these features while gaming and turn them back on when finished playing.

You just need to go to device security and go to core isolation and turn off the memory integrity feature that uses vbs to prevent attacks inserting code into processes.

First:

Select Start , enter ‘Core Isolation’ in the taskbar, and select Core Isolation from the list of results to open the Windows security app.

On the Core isolation page, turn off the toggle for Memory Integrity. You might need to restart your device.

Second:

Select Start , enter ‘Windows features’ in the search box, and select Turn Windows features on or off from the list of results.

In the Windows Features window that just opened, find and unselect Virtual Machine Platform.

You'll have to reboot after these are done, and you can always turn them both back on after gaming. The impact of the Microsoft Virtual Machine is tremendous and shutting them down will bring your performance up to peak. Of course there is a ton of other options. This is just one thing about the operating system rather than the issues of processor and GPU.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you're on an older Intel chip the old trick of disabling async compute in the user_settings.config file seems to offer some performance gains.

I'm going to make a thread tomorrow about all the performance tweaks I've found. Hopefully it helps some people.

Oh, good... yea that might make a good guide. Good luck. Yeah, so many little tweaks that one can make for new and old cards, processors, OS, etc.

Also been using the Lossless Scaling app you can find on Steam. It enables Frame Generation in any game, even if you have an older nVidia card. Literally doubles your frames.

“Doubles” your input latency too 😆

That memory integrity feature will also mess with your AMD driver if you have a CPU that also has a IGPU as well because it prevents the latest driver from loading for your deadicated GPU and then forces Windows to use the IGPU.

I was having trouble for a year with the driver issue above, bought my girlfriend a MSI Alpha 15 Laptop has a 5800H, RX6600 16GB RAM. Everytime I tried to install the latest drivers it would work until I shut down the laptop and powered up again at a later date it would cause the driver to not work.

After months and months of trying everything I came to the Memory Integrity feature turned it off, installed new driver by removing old with DDU in safe mode. And I've had no issues for about 4 weeks now the only other issue is I have to tell Windows to use the RX6600 instead not automatic as it uses the IGPU stupid thing. Why I won't upgrade to Windows 11 on my PC it's crap
