No worries :) You edited while I was posting, but I did catch the edit. My current goal is to get back to roughly where I was in Helldivers 1, which is to say a Shield Backpack. Can't use the Stalwart as a primary any more, so we'll see what happens there.
mostly play Dif 9 Helldiver
last 3 difs you need to rethink how you play, you can't just keep on fighting patrols and massive amounts of forces, use stealth, distractions, kiting and hit & run. Currently working out that there is a gunshot range that can be heard and if you shoot outside of that enemies don't hear you and die without reacting allowing you to long distance whole bases
But that's actually the problem, though. Helldivers is at its finest when engaged in massive firefights with copious air support. In high difficulties, the best way to succeed is to avoid playing the actual core game as much as possible. Don't fight bugs, don't use your calldowns, avoid as much action as you can get away with.
This was THE central failure of the original Helldivers, as well. Combat is fun, but combat is also a failure state. "Playing well" meant having incredibly boring runs. The more boring, the better.
I don't avoid fights, but I do avoid patrols as those provide no benefit and are an entire waste of like 8 minutes and can be a mission killer. When it comes to objectives, I'm making sure I kill the bugs or die trying, which is the same mentality I see the other people on helldive using. In lower difficulties though it's just them trying to cheese the game to make it easier on themselves while refusing to learn mechanics and adapt/improve their mechanics.
If anything the top 3 difficulties are played almost perfectly, it's just that side objectives take priority over mains for whatever reason, and teammates current lack skill and frequently teamkill, me included until I stopped using the arc thrower.
i mainly play on 3-4
i can consistently complete level 4 solo.
And also, my brother's in Christ, bring some freakin' heavy weapons, and close those gosh darn bug holes.
It's crazy to me just how wide the skill gap is. I would expect people to get a nice feel for explosion radius after the first or second use of it, but most people just aren't seeming to learn from their mistakes.
Edit: Also a resupply pack is all you need to kill bug holes. Throw 2 nades, resupply yourself with the 5 key, throw 2 more, resupply. Continue until the nest is dead.
Yep!
I also am considering bringing in a Nade Launcher since they can one shot a bug hole, and and a jet pack would be nice, or supply pack, but I'd had to waste a second strat slot for the jump pack or supply, since nuke strats are so helpful in the harder difficulties.
As a personal note, Challenging was the first major spike with the introduction of stalkers, chargers as regular enemies, and more common acid spitters. It wouldn't surprise me at all if people get stuck on it or don't want to go higher than it for a while.
