Difficulty Poll
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious as to what difficulties the majority of players have beaten right?

What difficulty have you reached?[strawpoll.com]

What difficulty do you play?[strawpoll.com] (Vote with your terminid difficulty to keep things simple)

I personally thought that most of us were at impossible or helldive but considering how many people are complaining about the difficulty, I'm starting to doubt my original beliefs. It's not going to be 100% accurate but it's better than nothing I believe :D

No worries :) You edited while I was posting, but I did catch the edit. My current goal is to get back to roughly where I was in Helldivers 1, which is to say a Shield Backpack. Can't use the Stalwart as a primary any more, so we'll see what happens there.

Beaten - Dif 9 Helldiver
mostly play Dif 9 Helldiver

last 3 difs you need to rethink how you play, you can't just keep on fighting patrols and massive amounts of forces, use stealth, distractions, kiting and hit & run. Currently working out that there is a gunshot range that can be heard and if you shoot outside of that enemies don't hear you and die without reacting allowing you to long distance whole bases

I'm at 8 tier difficulty, doing missions solo.

But that's actually the problem, though. Helldivers is at its finest when engaged in massive firefights with copious air support. In high difficulties, the best way to succeed is to avoid playing the actual core game as much as possible. Don't fight bugs, don't use your calldowns, avoid as much action as you can get away with.

This was THE central failure of the original Helldivers, as well. Combat is fun, but combat is also a failure state. "Playing well" meant having incredibly boring runs. The more boring, the better.

Since lvl 10 I'm only playing on the highest difficulty (Helldive), I'm lvl 20 now.

I don't feel like thats how most people on high difficulty succeed. I tried playing some low difficulty and was gonna assist people through missions and avoid hard carrying, but it was annoying. They took routes to avoid any nests and whatnot, took ages to get to an objective, and on a few occasions thought the wave was too hard so they lured it away and got killed by it to make it despawn. When I play helldive difficulty though as I (think?) I said in this discussion, my teammates will dive in head first attacking anything excluding patrols.

I don't avoid fights, but I do avoid patrols as those provide no benefit and are an entire waste of like 8 minutes and can be a mission killer. When it comes to objectives, I'm making sure I kill the bugs or die trying, which is the same mentality I see the other people on helldive using. In lower difficulties though it's just them trying to cheese the game to make it easier on themselves while refusing to learn mechanics and adapt/improve their mechanics.

If anything the top 3 difficulties are played almost perfectly, it's just that side objectives take priority over mains for whatever reason, and teammates current lack skill and frequently teamkill, me included until I stopped using the arc thrower.

highest difficulty i've played so far is level 5(hard)

i can consistently complete level 4 solo.

I like extreme and suicide but it really depends on the teams you have to run with. If they haven't learned the mechanics and how the stratagems work, it's going to be a frustrating run. Mainly the issue is that people haven't got a good feel for sentry placement and other bombardment stratagems, so they'll drop a sentry in the middle of us thinking its a good thing then it wipes half the team, same for anything that drops ordinance, if they don't have a good sense of the radius of the explosion, they typically kill everyone.

And also, my brother's in Christ, bring some freakin' heavy weapons, and close those gosh darn bug holes.

Hard agree but I find most of the time if a sentry is turning towards you, just crouching/diving will prevent it from killing you.

It's crazy to me just how wide the skill gap is. I would expect people to get a nice feel for explosion radius after the first or second use of it, but most people just aren't seeming to learn from their mistakes.

Edit: Also a resupply pack is all you need to kill bug holes. Throw 2 nades, resupply yourself with the 5 key, throw 2 more, resupply. Continue until the nest is dead.

I find Hard to be the most enjoyable, but I've been mostly doing Helldiver to find the super samples.

Yep!

I also am considering bringing in a Nade Launcher since they can one shot a bug hole, and and a jet pack would be nice, or supply pack, but I'd had to waste a second strat slot for the jump pack or supply, since nuke strats are so helpful in the harder difficulties.

Keep in mind this forum isn't overly reflective of regular players.

As a personal note, Challenging was the first major spike with the introduction of stalkers, chargers as regular enemies, and more common acid spitters. It wouldn't surprise me at all if people get stuck on it or don't want to go higher than it for a while.

Jetpacks are absurdly OP if you want to be a team player. If you go with a jetpack, bring a support weapon with hug mag cape, like the autocannon or machine gun. If hordes are chasing you, you can run around the objective and then when you get the chance, use the jumppack to go over an obstacle that the terminids need to go around, buying you enough time to atleast interact the terminal, if not completing the objective.
