How many characters can I have?
Can I play as a second character like Remnant 2?

Everytime you die, you get replaced with a new "recruit" you still got your gear though

infinite. every time you die you're a new character. if you mean accounts then a single one. this isn't a rpg, there's no stat progression. all you do is choose your stratagems & a booster if you have one to bring into battle each time.

no you just use the one character for everything

You can have a squad of up to 4 at a time including you. You aren't choosing from a set of characters, or really even creating any characters, you just choose some appearance/voice stuff. So the 4 of you can look different, or the same, if you want.

You can play with different friends if you have different friends, I guess?

So to be clear...if I play on my son's account to see if I want it, I can't make a separate character? IE I'll **** up his KDR a bit etc?

It's not that it's hard. It's that it doesn't encourage people to buy more copies. If you had profiles, two people in the same household (for example) could each have their own separate progression. This way makes them both need to have their own copies of the game.

If a decision by a game developer is ever confusing, think about it involving money.

No only one character per account.

@Makiaveli I wouldn't worry about messing stats like KDR up. It's inevitable you will die one way or another and racking up kills is really easy. The stalwart against bugs is a good noob friendly machinegun to use if you want to feel the starship trooper vibe. As long as you have a full clip when a bug breach happens you can effectively stop it from getting out of hand and unlike the other machineguns you can reload on the go if you need to backup. If your son has unlocked the supply pack use that aswell and you'll be having a blast.

You never see your character's face as he/she is always wearing his/her set of armor. Hence the character isn't really important either. All you'll do, is select a voice and a 'build' (slender or more massive). And again, there won't be any impact in the game.

Functionally, no. In-lore, yes.

You have one set of unlocks/stats/whatever, but your character is canonically a new Helldiver every respawn.
