Possible fix for random poor performance
My specs are RTX 3060, i7 12700, 32 gb of ram and 12 gb of vram. When I installed and ran the game for the first time I had a pretty smooth 75-90 fps during the tutorial and my first mission, but after coming back to the ship I wanted to change up a few graphics settings (the game defaulted to high/ultra with ultra quality upscaling) and pretty much immediately after changing stuff to lower settings my game started struggling to get a stable 40 fps. This persisted after restarting the game/pc multiple times, reverting graphics options to the default and even setting every option to low.

I eventually managed to fix it by uninstalling the game, going to the game's file directory in steamapps/common/ and deleting the game's folder (which after uninstalling still had a bunch of files related to the rootkit anti cheat) and then reinstalling the game.

I'm unsure of why this happens but that was the solution that worked for me and hopefully it will help out some other peeps who run into the same issue. If you're on amd hardware I don't know if this will help with stuttering or crashing but it's worth a shot, and if it works let us know here so people googling this can get a solid answer.

EDIT-TL;DR:

1. Right click and uninstall Helldivers 2 in your steam library

2. Navigate to steamapps/common/ and delete the Helldivers 2 folder

3. Open windows search and type in %appdata%, click on the folder result and go to AppData/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2

4. Copy the "saves" folder, then delete everything in helldivers2

5. Reinstall the game on steam

6. Go back to the AppData/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2 folder and paste & replace the "saves" folder to get your custom key bindings back

6a. (optional) Update your video drivers, or roll back to a previous one

Then launch your game and see if this improves your performance at all. You might need to repeat this fix whenever the game decides to randomly tank your frames, which seems to happen after updates to the game or slowly over time. Longest I've gone with this fix working/lasting is about 4 weeks before I had to repeat this "fix".

I’m going to try this today. I have practically the exact same specs and after the geforce driver update a few days ago my performance crashed. I get about 10 fps during missions on low settings when i would usually have a stable 40-50.

I rolled back the driver because it started crashing a lot.

I rolled back and uninstalled, deleted the steamapps/common folder, and reinstalled. Worked like a charm. Rollback on its own doesn't work.

It worked! You do need to delete the folder in the steamapps/common directory but I'm back to smooth gameplay :) thanks homie

It did not work for me, however, I found a fix on reddit.

Best solution i could find was to add this string "--use-d3d11" in the launch options of the game from steam directly. It will force the game to use dx11 instead of defaulting to dx12. I've seen massive improvements to my FPS and overall performance.

When loading into the game for the first time (only the first time) It'll take a while, wait patiently. You should immediately see an improvement in fps but test it in a mission because on some gpu it might cause particles effect to actually decrease performances even more.

okay, so im a complete idiot with anything like this but this has worked for me

open GeForce experience, in home tab hover over helldivers 2 and click details, then use use optimise settings, I have no idea why but it fixed it for me.

I don't know what in the settings it changes to make the lag stop, but it does seem to work.
I am having the same issue with an AMD card 6700XT and intel 12700K with 32GB of ram on SSD. I will try this fix and let you know.
Ok now this is interesting gotta try it when i get home will report back i got 59hz monitor so 60fps is my only goal but as of now bug breach will cause it to dip around 40-50 i wouod love to mow down bug at 60 fps again like on release thank stranger
Hey guys, just wanted to add that you can also find the player config files and some other stuff if you search %appdata% in windows search and go to AppData/Arrowhead/Helldivers2 folder. Copy the "saves" folder and then delete everything in the Helldivers2 folder after you go through the original steps of uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Paste the "saves" folder back in there to get your control bindings and settings back.

This has still been a pretty consistent (although temporary) performance fix for me that gets me back to 50-60 fps up from the 25-40 fps that seems to develop randomly over time and after updates to the game.
Running this game at native res tuff call for unless have high end PC

game has upscale

use the setting Ultra one below native rez

then set everything to low then tweak it till get the right fps you need

If still getting bad FPS then use the upscale to quality one below ultra

I get 70 90 fps at 1440p but upscale set to ultra below native

my actual setting for others mix or off low and mid to high

i9 9000k 16 gig ram and 1080TI

I do get crashes on extraction

I'm running a RX 6700 XT and having similar FPS spike issues and the game seems to be using way more GPU power than it needs to be. I'm reinstalling right now and will report back :)

Edit: Seems like my max frame rate has been raised from ~30-40 to ~80-100, but the stuttering is still painful and sometimes the FPS drops back down to 30 for half a minute or so... it's an overall improvement but it still a big problem.

Im gonna try this, I have similar specs of the iced tea but my cpu is amd. medium settings getting around 30fps~ and drops a lot with too much info from the game
edit: no effects here
Unfortunately AMD hardware seems to have a lot more issues with this game compared to intel/nvidia. It's also very taxing on the CPU in general on top of the gameguard anti cheat impacting performance so I dunno if this fix would help much if you have a weak one.

I'm going on my second day after applying this and I've had a consistent framerate that rarely drops below 60 unless there's a lot of stuff going on on screen.

I have lots of issues with this game too and i'm nvidia ):

..if this fixes anything(unlikely), it is very probable that you would get the same result by deleting the gameguard-folder, and having it reinstall.

Another classic is a virus-program that will continuously scan the gameguard executable. It's very probable that if you use the default Bitguard stuff from Microsoft, that you will have all kinds of inspection routines running. And binaries with device-driver wraps like these will make these apps work overtime.

If you launch the game-executable with admin-rights, the windows crap completely ignores it, though.. But it's possible a reinstall of the game actually sets the right access rights and elevated privileges by default, I guess.

But just reinstalling the game in general is not going to make any difference. And if there is any kind of problem with running the game as a user (certain situations, windows 10, other possibilities exist), then they will turn up again later.
