Micro transactions in a PvE game sucks.
LET ME START BY SAYING THIS GAME IS FUN. The game play loop is great and there is a lot in this game for FREE. I KNOW YOU CAN EARN THE PREMIUM BATTLE PASS IN GAME FOR FREE. But i really hate the fact that the game went with battle pass monetization.

I would rather have this game be a 60$ title with future dlc expansions released than to have the battle pass system currently. I feel like we missed out on a lot of cool customization options like being able to edit every part of our Helldiver. I wish we could change the colors of our armor, swap pieces in and out for every part of our characters, and so much more.

I think it would have been wise to release this game as a 60$ title with solo/single-player offline with future dlc adding factions, new armors, new maps, and more cool things. I hate that we have a battle pass that gives us subpar customization options that don't give us players much creative freedom. Didn't expect this for Helldivers 2 and i'm just disappointed.

Once a battle pass is introduced into a game the damage is already done. A game with a battle pass weaves the game play and the pass together creating a lot of limits on game play, customization, and creates shortcuts for players who decide to pay. Personally i really only care about the customization, but i can understand why some people consider p2w or pay to get ahead is annoying.

Battle passes only serve to limit a gaming experience. It limits customization, progression, and creates a grind that lasts longer than usual. I worry that the devs will also use this monetization to not release new content and instead just keep releasing battle passes with minimum content.

AS A FINAL NOTE I would maybe be able to tolerate the battle pass more if we were just given more creative freedom on customizing our Helldiver, but i'm torn since battlepasses historically are used in a very abusive way and limits a games growth.

That's not viable anymore. There's too much money on games these days to just have a multiplayer games be a one time purchase. Besides, paying for the warbond itself doesn't unlock everything in it automatically you still need medals from actually playing.

the 1000 super credit/ battle pass only grant you a "privilege" of buying stuff there, you still need to grind those medals.. heck i have been casually from launch i already got 700 super credit saved

$40 base game with premium currency earned In-mission and through the free "battlepass". The free track also provides enough to buy the premium "battle pass" alone.

MTXs so far cost $2-$4 dollars worth of premium currency. Not terrible.

Games cost money bro. And in a world where games are costing $70 (for literal recycled yearly ♥♥♥♥ like CoD), $40 for this kind of experience is pretty damn awesome in my book

It is just there for the impatient people or the people that want to support the devs. Currently, you can get the same gear through warbonds and it looks nicer.

I too would rather not be nickle and dimed the entire life cycle of a video game. Best you can do is not reward practices like this as a player.

Not really for impatient people. Everything in the premium track cost medals to unlock (like in the free track) and are significantly more expensive. The first gun alone is like 30+ medals. The other ones cost 60+ i believe

I'd much rather pay 60$ and be able to fully customize my character however i want and earn everything in game for free without a lengthy battle pass. Then add dlc after to add more content. Why do we have to do a battle pass giving us subpar customization options and cool guns. Really didnt expect this for hell divers. Went in thinking id be able to earn different armors, change my color and fully make my character look like a badass. Just disappointing.

I dislike that it's live service when in truth almost the entire game is P2P and client side and it just makes playing with friends whenever you want a liability should their server go down. Your PC is where the game is actually hosted and you can get kicked out of your own game even though you obviously didn't DC from your own match.

The rest I don't mind and the game is headed in an otherwise perfect direction. I hope before they ever pull the plug on this game they just remove the live service requirements.

You can't even purchase the medals with real world currency. I am level 9 and have spent 114 medals with 9 in the account. You get medals from running missions and finding them while on mission. I have 330 Super Credits currently (earned them through running mission and buying them with medals) and haven't spent any. I only purchased the $40 version of the game, but considering upgrading just to support the devs.

PS: I haven't even bothered with the premium yet. But again, Warbonds/medals are not available for purchase with real world money. Only super credits.

I think it's completely chill. DRG has a similar model and it works great. Support these guys as you see fit. The start was rocky but they've been working out the ass to get this to working order, I give credit where its due. This game is 40 bucks and the micro-transactions are fairly distibuted. Got my first gun for 3 medal (iirc, it was the breacher)

It's Live Service, Live service has to have MTX.

Do you want advertisements? do you want McDonalds ads in the game?

Well I do agree microtransactions are bad, but in this case I dont mind myself. Its PvE, its not hurting anyone.

Also with this system they can support their servers. I think its one of the reasons why they added microtransactions.

Also right now, its pretty light. Not much stuff to buy other than the premium pass.
Jerran Feb 9, 2024 @ 6:21pm
at least you can earn the premium currency in game

Honestly PvE games have become just as much (if not more) about "look at me" than PvP games. Flexing motivates people regardless of genre, whether that be the useless skill they've developed playing constantly, a rare skin, or a premium DLC item.

People are dumb. Devs are just targeting easy money, can't really blame them.
