Why is open mic default?

As the title says, why on earth is open microphone the default option? It's so dumb. So far I've heard game doubled through teammates mic (sometimes louder than my own game), crying babies, ringing phones, tv in the background, talking in some random language, coughing and other beeping and strange noises. It's so annoying, please devs, can you do something about that?
Asking the players to change their settings does not help sadly.

If asking them doesn't do anything, they probably hit okay during first time start up when it asked about the mic.

It should be set to "Push to Talk" by default. I will say that on PC, I've been fortunate enough that every single person I've played with has had their mic muted out of the gate.

Lol last night some guy was calling out, what I assume was/is, his girl. I just heard her say, F*** you you f****ng B***. And then something and then he was gone from the lobby. 😔 1 less helldiver. He fought bravely till the end.

seems like a issue if u play with console players cuz of the built in controller mic

i dont do crossplay and have yet to meet anyone make a sound

I noticed the open mic instantly and made changes accordingly.
