It looks cool and I like the idea of a precision, surgical-laser weapon, but it feels like it has too many cons to be worth using. Even more so with the fact that the only two secondaries I have found good success from are the starting handgun and the P19 you get. The senator revolver feels too slow and you're farming for weakpoints that the P19 can get from a quick burst.

You're basically picking a constant, reliably stocked primary but having to fall back to your secondary and chew through its limited ammo supply more times than you might want to.

tl;dr: unless I'm missing something with it, it's weak but cool.

I feel like it's an issue with lot of weapon, they are neat, seems they might be good for certain role / niche option but end up falling short.
Scythe and Laser canon do barely any damage, are heavily single target focus so should be good to nuke weakpoint but not even, you overheat or reach near overheat by the time you kill a single target. They need to ramp up it's damage to make it anywhere near viable.

I believe the purpose of these weapons is to strip armor. Thats why they are support weapons.

I like it as the Guard Dog backpack, it's excellent for keeping small bugs away but kinda useless on automatons.

I've been watching my friend and some randoms use it, and I'm pretty sure Stalwart is the better option for sustained firing.

It feels way too weak to be useful almost ever past a certain difficulty. Helldivers 1 I don’t remember it being THIS weak. Certainly wasn’t the best weapon in the game then, but it was decent and better with upgrades. Here it’s arguably trash; same with laser canon… they should buff the damage output slightly until upgrades are introduced.

Can't speak for the scythe as I've yet to unlock it. The laser cannon though? It's not just bad, but it makes me a liability to the team. Literally any other support weapon will help the team out more than a laser cannon--even when you take the unlimited ammo into consideration.

It does so little damage and aims so slowly that I can't even kill a basic bug jumper before it leaps up to claw my face off. It overheats so quickly I can't use it to provide sustained fire. First-person optics are useless because the beam blinds you.

A couple ideas how to improve the laser cannon without making it OP? I'd keep the 'drunk' aiming, keep its damage at current levels, cause a brief stagger on small to medium targets, increase its heat capacity, and allow it to slowly strip/melt armor as you focus on a target.

This will allow the laser cannon to do two things. One, stagger small/medium targets with sweeping beams so your team can more easily kill them with kinetic weapons. Two, gradually slag off the armor of medium/heavy targets so kinetics can kill them. Kinetic cannons/rockets will strip armor and kill heavies faster, but this version of the laser cannon will provide reliable armor-stripping without eating up ammo.

I played a few games with it and i really think it is not worth the medals at all. Not only the damage is low, you also need to keep the beam on target - with bugs jumping around and you not seeing ♥♥♥♥ thru the laser beam itself - not easy. You also cannot tap (longer range kills) or quickly change the targets with close range spray'n'pray... Also the sound is just boring, shooting feels mutch more fun. For me so far SMG 37 Defender (SMG, but slower and more powerful than ARs...) it is.

The scythe sucks. Can barely kill anything with it!

the scythe is 100% not reliable as a primary source of damage. I used to choose it as a backup weapon for the autocannon. It was serviceable for finishing off whatever got through the cannon and for killing small to medium enemies at safe range.

but now there's the Sickle, which is so much better at basically everything.

Yeah, I can agree with this statement, and a lot of them just need a little extra tweak to make them more useful so that we can have more viable options to bring to every difficulty rather than relying on just a few before they get nerfed by the overzealous devs.

the laser is really bad but the one on cutting edge is my fav as its so good.
i main it for all as high damage good range good scope and easy not to over heat.
with the laser pistol that isn't that good or laser cannon as you can keep the fire up without using up any ammo.
