Muddy bluetooth audio.
All applications on my computer sound great, until I boot this game and then suddenly everything sounds like it's underwater. Anyone else have this issue?

In your search bar, type Services and open the Services app. Find Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service. Stop the service, then right click and go to properties, change the Startup type to Disabled. This way, the service will remain disabled when you restart your pc. Worked for me.

Same issue.

When i alt tab out and play a youtube video, they sound muddy too.

As soon as I quit the game, the youtube video sound goes back to normal.

Game is borked./

Guys, do not play games in your bathtub. It is dangerous!

I've had bluetooth do this to me before when it switches from just audio playback to communications mode so it can also send back Mic recorded audio. I haven't picked the game up yet but I'm wondering if it's changing a setting because of the voice chat options in game.

In the past, I'd fixed it for myself by going into Control Panel > Sounds > Playback and disabling only the Headset version of my bluetooth device. I left Headphones alone and that let audio playback. This worked for me because I also have a stand-alone mic.

Do not do this if your bluetooth headset is where your mic is located as well, it'll break your ability to talk to anyone

Above me did not work. This is extremely infuriating as it kills my discord sound as well. I have momentum 3s and this happens when the voice chat in a game tries to use the built in mic the headset has. Every game but this allows me to swap the device to counter act this, but not this game. Game sounds like muddy ♥♥♥♥ on my headset and cant even use discord.

I've disabled everything in control panel and device manager except for my headphones and separate mic. Still no good. Using Spotify to test the audio as the game runs and the issue persists.

I've also noticed that in the Windows 11 audio mixer, there are two instances of Helldivers 2 audio tabs running at once (one of which cannot be adjusted), which I've never seen before.

I've found a temporary fix and was able to run the game alongside Spotify, etc. with clarity. It seems people have stumbled across this issue a few times when gaming with Bluetooth headphones on Windows 11 .

Go to Bluetooth & devices > More devices and printer settings > *right click on the relevant audio output (should look like an earpiece)* > Properties > Services > *uncheck 'Hands-free Telephony'*. This fix is only temporary and will reset upon reboot.

For reference I'm using a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3s with a Bluetooth 5.0 adapter. Hopefully this gets patched soon so we don't have to keep doing this every time we launch the game.
