Also you can go fight the automatron to change the pace
EDF, even after five iterations, still feels like a student project. I get the appeal of a B-movie "good bad game" but EDF feels like total cheeks to actually play.
HD2 has some launch pains to work through, but when a mission is rolling, it's a ton of fun and feels awesome.
Not many people seem to know this. But EDF is an ip with a 20 year history
EDF is stupid though, like stupid fun, stupid funny and just stupid stupid, its a trip and i would highly encourage you to play it with someone else so you can riff on the stupid of it all.
