GameGuards: Initialize error. Try rebooting or closing all programs that might interfere and try again. Error 114
The game loads and this error pops up before the game even opens.
So I have the same problem and the only remedy I found was this and I can't do it since I don't know how to whitelist the game per the instructions through my ESET FireWall.
Head to the Helldivers 2 folder on your PC, and click on the bin folder within.
Delete the existing folder named ‘GameGuard’ within the bin folder.
Run the base Helldivers 2 program as a .exe file, and a new version of the GameGuard folder will appear.
Make a note of the route to this specific folder.
Head onto your PC’s antivirus software. Navigate through its file explorer to go back to this GameGuard folder and add it specifically to your antivirus whitelist.
Boot Helldivers 2 up again, and it should work properly.
-Go to the Helldivers 2 folder on your PC.
-Click on the “bin” folder within it.
-Delete the existing folder named “GameGuard” within the bin folder.
Run Helldivers 2 as an Administrator:
-Run the base Helldivers 2 program as a .exe file.
-A new version of the GameGuard folder will appear. Make a note of the route to this specific folder.
Whitelist the GameGuard Folder:
-Open your PC’s antivirus software.
-Navigate through its file explorer to go back to the GameGuard folder.
-Add this folder specifically to your antivirus whitelist.
1. In the game directory (right-click Helldivers 2 in Steam, Manage>Browse Local Files), I went to tools, and ran the 'gguninst.exe'. This uninstalls the GameGuard. I then ran 'GGSetup.exe' as an Administrator. I didn't get any prompts to confirm installation.
2. Going back to the root folder, I then went to bin and right-clicked the game launcher file, 'helldivers2.exe'. Under properties, I enabled Compatibility mode for Windows 8, Enabled 'Disable Full-Screen Optimizations', and 'Run this program as an Administrator.'
This allowed the game to start for me. I am running this on a laptop, Asus ROG Strix GL703GS
YOU are my hero.
