If you are using a bluetooth headset, the game has incorrectly forced the system into using the "headset" output mode of your bluetooth headset instead of leaving it in "headphone" mode.

This will have the effect of making the whole system appear muted while you have the rest of windows set to use the headphone device. To get the audio to play, you need to select the speaker icon in your system tray, and then select your bluetooth headset. There will be two options for your headset, one will say your headset name with (speakers) and one will say your headset name with (headset).

Unfortunately, now that you've selected headset mode, your system audio is going to sound terrible. This is a well known issue with bluetooth headphones. The developers just didn't account for it.

The way this is typically handled is to allow the user to select their audio input and output devices separately in game. That way the user can set their bluetooth headphones to receive the game audio, and then set a separate mic to pick up their voice. This way the input and output don't need to share bandwidth and end up in lower quality.

Thanks for your explanation. A Google search led me here and this helped me.

Solution:

- Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
- Right click in your Bluetooth audio device
- Uncheck "Handsfree Telephony" in "Services" tab
- Turn off and turn on you headphone

so there is no fix to this at all? Even though I am using bluetooth the audio will sound terrible, and also turning off the hands-free in the service panel is a temporary fix. I use the x1000xm4 sony headphones. Just wanted to know.

My headset has bluetooth but I'm using it with cable and I can't get to find the Services & Hand-free box to untick :(

I'm stick with very bad sound while I play, I truly don't understand why they made this choice. Just allow us to choose our peripherals pls

EDIT I FOUND A FIX FOR ME ON WIN10: Audio Peripherals -> Microphone -> Deactivate your bluetooth headset microphone here

Would welcome any confirmation if this is resolvable for Airpods Max on Win 11

I personally use some AirPods Max on windows 10. I found that on the control panel and managing sound and devices it actually splits the AirPod maxes into a listening device and a microphone device. I disabled the microphone device on both audio and recording and it managed to fix it for me. However I do use a separate mic via USB. So I can’t say if you happen to be using your headset as a microphone as well

Disable all other audio input and output methods and force the game to use the single one that you actually used. You'll need to restart the PC.. but that's what solved it for me.. and disabling Telephony mode.. I also have Steam, Discord and the game running as Admin always.

I use a Blutooth headset. I am also on Windows 11

The way I got my headset to work for the game was:

Sound Setting > Volume Mixer > Apps "HellDivers 2" > Select both input and output "Name of the headset you are using".

I am not using a Bluetooth Headset. it is wired and with a USB connection.

If you are using a Bluetooth audio device, try this.

Windows key - type 'services' and select - double click on 'Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service' - Click Stop button - Change the Startup type to Disabled - Click OK button

This fixed it for me.

I am on Bluetooth and using windows 11. Search "sound mixer settings" on windows 11, scroll down to apps, and select your input/output devices for Helldivers.

Note that I also tried all the other methods I found in this forum and on reddit, so it could be that everything I tried worked together to fix the problem.
