This will have the effect of making the whole system appear muted while you have the rest of windows set to use the headphone device. To get the audio to play, you need to select the speaker icon in your system tray, and then select your bluetooth headset. There will be two options for your headset, one will say your headset name with (speakers) and one will say your headset name with (headset).
Unfortunately, now that you've selected headset mode, your system audio is going to sound terrible. This is a well known issue with bluetooth headphones. The developers just didn't account for it.
The way this is typically handled is to allow the user to select their audio input and output devices separately in game. That way the user can set their bluetooth headphones to receive the game audio, and then set a separate mic to pick up their voice. This way the input and output don't need to share bandwidth and end up in lower quality.
Thanks for your explanation. A Google search led me here and this helped me.
- Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
- Right click in your Bluetooth audio device
- Uncheck "Handsfree Telephony" in "Services" tab
- Turn off and turn on you headphone

EDIT I FOUND A FIX FOR ME ON WIN10: Audio Peripherals -> Microphone -> Deactivate your bluetooth headset microphone here
I use a Blutooth headset. I am also on Windows 11
Sound Setting > Volume Mixer > Apps "HellDivers 2" > Select both input and output "Name of the headset you are using".
I am not using a Bluetooth Headset. it is wired and with a USB connection.
Windows key - type 'services' and select - double click on 'Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service' - Click Stop button - Change the Startup type to Disabled - Click OK button
This fixed it for me.
I am on Bluetooth and using windows 11. Search "sound mixer settings" on windows 11, scroll down to apps, and select your input/output devices for Helldivers.
Note that I also tried all the other methods I found in this forum and on reddit, so it could be that everything I tried worked together to fix the problem.
This worked perfectly! Thanks!
